Need Help! Recruitment troubles!

Hello! I have been lurking on GC for awhile but just now created an account for the purpose of my question. I live with 3 other girls and out of the 4 of us, 3 of us have questions regarding sorority recruitment.

1. One of my roommates pledged a sorority and was bullied by some of the actives and not really welcomed by her pledge class. So she dropped but really wants to be a part of a sorority so she wants to rush again the fall. What advice do y'all have for her that will help better her chances and prepare her as a junior rushing for a second time who depledged.

2. One of my roommates didn't rush this fall but wants to join a sorority in the spring. At our school we do not have informal recruitment, however each year certain sororities do take in spring pledges(the sororities varying each year). How does she go about telling sororities that she in interested?

3. My question is that I pledged a sorority but I am still not in love with it and with initiation approaching very soon, I'm scared I may not be ready for it. Is there anyway to push back not getting initiated yet? Like possibly getting initiated in the spring?

*I want to note that we do not go to a school in the SEC but we do go to a very large well known college in the south that has a very hard rush. We are also all currently sophomores that transferred. With that said, we only want POSITIVE advice on how to go about our situations. Thanks!

TOUGH LUCK!

Sorry, if you are initiated into a NPC group, you can't pledge another one.

I am guessing Roomie 2 doesn't want the 2 groups that you and other roomie are ditching.

I am also guessing that if the other sororities figure out that 2 of 3 roomies ditched their sororities, they won't be so quick to invite your roomie to recruitment parties.

This may be hard to come by, because none of you are in a good situation. Without knowing your campus, the reality is that juniors aren't attractive to sororities. Women who accept bids and then depledge aren't attractive either. Word gets around. The certain sororities who participate in spring recruitment will likely take in women they know, if it's as informal as you describe. Roomie 2 should contact the Panhellenic office to inquire about any official process.

I think you're in the best shape. Stay where you are and be thankful, and talk to your new member educator about any hesitation you're having.

Sadfly, these women have not yet been initiated. That said, they are not in the most optimal situations for future recruitments, as Sciencewoman notes.

To answer question 2 - she should talk to the Greek Life office. IF a chapter is looking for girls, they will ask for a list. Otherwise she should express interest to her friends who are in sororities. If they have openings (and some other "boxes" are checked), that's going to be her best shot. And that would be true of your chapter should you choose to stick it out and fight for her.

To the OP, if you aren't ready for initiation, get more involved in your chapter. I have found that NMs AND sisters that feel like they aren't a part of the chapter or don't fit in are the ones that don't participate. You get out of it what you put into it.

Roommate No. 1 is the junior who depledged at what I am going to assume is a competitive school. While she is free to try again, her chances of getting a bid are probably low. She should buff up her resume (grades, activities, volunteer work,) and be very friendly with girls in her classes and activities who are sorority members.

Roommate No. 2 should put her name on the list of interested girls at the greek life office at her campus. She, too, should freshen her resume and start chatting up girls in her classes.

As for you -- you might have a chance of delaying your initiation. Talk to your new member educator. However, I would not advise it. I agree with AOII Angel that seeking more involvement with your chapter would be beneficial. This is likely your only chance to be greek, so give it your very best effort. Emotional ties don't always happen quickly.
