Book of Manning
I posted this in a thread about recruitment at Ole Miss, but feel so strongly about this show that I wanted to post here:
If you haven't yet seen ESPN's The Book of Manning do yourself a favor and make sure you do. Whether you're an Ole Miss fan or not, you'll definitely find this show inspiring to say the least. It's a wonderful story about fathers and sons (kids in general), football, college, and it will cause you to reach for the kleenex multiple times. As a long-suffering life-long Saints fan and a fairly new Ole Miss fan, my heart swelled with pride. I've met Archie on several occasions several years ago while in the corporate world. He is genuinely a nice guy and very humble and it comes across in this documentary. Do a search for SEC Storied: The Book of Manning and DVR it, then watch it with your family. Hubby and I cried several times and we just watched it with the dog! When both kids come home for Thanksgiving, we'll sit down and watch it again with them. Here's a link to the trailer: http://espn.go.com/video/clip?id=9483518 I just can't recommend it enough....#WHODAT #HOTTYTODDY! |
I concur, it was well worth watching...even if you are not an Ole Miss fan. ;)

Archie and Eli are fairly well known members of our Ole Miss chapter.

I saw the program last night.
Didn't even know about the oldest Manning brother, Cooper. There are a couple of times in the documentary where you'll need a tissue. I talked to Peyton earlier this month when he was doing the DirecTV satellite tour. I don't think Peyton is channeling Carol Burnett here: https://scontent-b.xx.fbcdn.net/hpho...80959856_n.jpg The only opportunity I had to meet Peyton was when he was a senior at Tennessee. He was at a NCAA awards dinner in Atlanta and I was invited to go (I was President of the Tulsa University Alumni Chapter in Atlanta at the time). I saw Peyton & walked toward him to introduce myself (making a bold move). But President Bush (the 1st) stepped in front of me to shake hands with Peyton. PRESIDENT BUSH C-BLOCKED ME! I'm still grudging the Republican party. But, at dinner, I got to sit next to fellow TU alum -- and Dallas Cowboy great -- Drew Pearson! (So there -- IN YOUR FACE, Peyton!) |
Came across it on TV last night as well! What a great family.

It really was an amazing documentary. My husband told me "record this, and anytime I start to push our kids too hard, make me sit down and rewatch this. I want to be an Archie Manning dad."
