Badges and Alums...

Hi all!!!

I am hoping someone can refresh my memory. I know that after you are an alum you don't have to wear your badge over your heart. What are the different ways that an alum is allowed to wear the badge? If I am going to wear it on a necklace--does it have to be on the disc? I knew all of these answer while I was still in school--and now I cannot remeber for the life of me!!!

Thanks bunches!!!

Loyally,

Hi! I looked at the IHQ website for the Burr, Patterson, Auld website..
http://www.burrpatt.com/alphagammade...ndPendants.asp

I have the pendant badge holder. I like it better than the disc. The prices were different when I bought it at Convention this summer..of course, they are higher.

Something to consider is if you wear your Badge with your chapter guard, EP Honor Award and/or other dangles. Might get kind of cumbersome. Some sisters' necklaces looked nice..but others, I didn't esp care for..sometimes the necklace itself can make a difference, i.e., the length.

Honestly, I prefer it "over my heart", but the necklace makes it a lot easier to put on/take off so that I don't have to remember what outfit I wore the last time.

I'd have to check the manuals too, but I think alumnae can wear it on the lapel?? I am probably wrong.

(Bust out her old New Member Guide)

" Alumnae wear their Badges in the traditional manner or on a suit lapel, a collar, as a pendant or as a ring."

-How the heck do you make it into a ring???

oooohh side note

" The Honors of Epsilon Pi, a chapter guard, a man's fraternity pin or honor society pin are worm to the left and slighty lower than the Badge.

Then it just goes on to say that a memebr can lease more than one Badge. :D

I don't know if it is still available, but years ago, there was a ring that you could set your badge onto. I had it but it didn't work very well for me. One problem was that I was scared of hitting the top pearl, plus it looked awkward. It may have looked better with a plain badge. Now, my fingers don't fit the ring anyway, lol.

Maybe I should sell it on ebay, lol!;)

now that one I would forget, I am also an Alpha Phi Omega, and boy did I mess that up a few times! my sister mom kept me in check, like always!;)

I wear my badge on the lapel of my suit coat everyday. I get loads of compliments on it...and it gives me the chance to talk up Alpha Gamma Delta to whomever I speak!

Wear your badge often and proudly, girls!

Lynn, so what happens when you wear you badge in the badge pendant holder? What happens to your EPi award? Do you have to take it off?

greeklawgirl 01-06-2002 01:58 PM

Nina,

If you get the pendant holder that is an open circle, you can actually clip your Honors of Epsilon Pi onto the circle. I've seen several alumnae do that...I don't know if you can do that with the solid disk.

Open charm

Maria's right, I can take it off easier b/c I just open the clasp. With the disc, I think they have to drill holes into it. I don't know if there are extra holes for guards, EP honors, etc.

I keep the badge on the charm. The only difference is that I switch back and forth by using the gold necklace with either the badge or the Rose Drop.

If I were in a different work environment, I would like to wear it more frequently like Maria does. Unfortunately, where I work, I don't think it would make a good impression.

BTW, I am starting to attend a newly-formed Panhellenic group's meetings. It's nice to have my necklace and badge complimented on!! Some GLO badges/pins wouldn't work as a necklace, I don't think..

Another question...

Thanks for all the help!!! Does anyone know if it is okay to wear the badge on a gold chain, without the disc or pendant holder. I have a chain that it would look neat hanging off of. Do you all think that would be okay???

Thanks again for all your help!!

greeklawgirl 01-07-2002 01:40 AM

Wendi, I think that as long as the badge isn't in any danger of falling off, putting it on a chain should be fine. It would probably look quite nice!

AGDLynn 01-07-2002 11:16 PM

I guess I'd have to practice with the chain, but if your badge was heavy, wouldn't it keep flopping over??

When I got married in 1999, I wanted my attendants and I to wear chokers with some sort of pearl in the middle ( I can't remember the exact design). Unfortunately 3 out 5 kept flipping over so you kept seeing the back of the pearl and not the front.
