De-Pledging my sorority to join a new one?
Hey everyone!
I recently just pledged XYZ sorority in August, but I have recently made the decision to transfer to a school where they do not have my sorority. I have not been initiated yet, we are officially initiated in October, so as of now, I am still a new member. If I drop out of my sorority, will I be able to pledge a completely different sorority at the different university that I attend when I am a sophomore at my new school? Also, If I do drop out of my sorority, how exactly do I go about that? |
You are permitted to go through recruitment at your new school, and to pledge there if all works well.
If you initiate to your current sorority, that answer changes. To de-pledge/drop/resign, speak to your New Member Coordinator and ask for the proper forms and the process. |
Please tell me your username doesn't reflect your affiliation because then it is just silly to call it XYZ in your post.

No!!! They are just my initials!!! I am not a Kappa Delta!

If you change schools, you can go through recruitment immediately and are no longer bound to your bid for a full year.

I really don't understand how some freshman girls decide within a month of starting college that they are already going to transfer. If it were a community college to save money and that was always the plan, ok, but if you already know that you're only going to be at school for 1 year, why the hell did you pledge in the first place? Either initiate and enjoy your time and then become an involved alumna, or drop and let the chapter replace your flakey butt. But be aware that you may not get into a sorority at new school as a sophomore. So....you may ultimately end up greek-less.

I would also really stress re-thinking about dropping. You said in your other thread that you want to transfer to USC (California). First of all, USC doesn't release admission decisions til April, secondly, it's becoming VERY hard to get in there so you can't count on an acceptance, and finally, what happens if you don't get in and you stay at your school? Are you going to be ok with not being Greek at your current school?

One of these days I need to write my really-retro recruitment/affiliation story. That very theme plays very heavily into my own story and choices I had to make. |
