The outcome of my recruitment (CofC)

Recruitment ended yesterday with bid day. I went through recruitment this year as a rising junior with a 3.0. After the second day, I had been dropped by all (9) but two of the sororities on campus, and the two that had invited me back were my least favorite on the first day. I decided to keep an open mind going into day two and give the two who had invited me back a chance. As it turns out, I had completely misjudged one and it became my favorite. On day three, I was down to one, but it was my favorite, so I wasn't upset. Throughout recruitment, I kept receiving invites back to the house. I had a blast every single day, and the time there went by so fast. I am pleased to say that as of yesterday, I am a Phi Mu girl :)

I don't know why the other sororities dropped me after the first day. It could have been because of my GPA, the fact that I'm a junior, or the fact that I ended up low on the cut off list. It could have been a number of things. Regardless of the reason, sororities know best what fits their sorority. Phi Mu consistently gave me chances, and that made me want to give them a chance.

When people say that if you keep an open mind you'll end up where you belong, they're right. I feel completely at home with Phi Mu. Recruitment is a mutual process. They wanted me, and I wanted them. It's nice to be where you're wanted.

A lot of girls dropped after the first, second, and third days. Many were discouraged because they didn't get invited back to the one they wanted or because the ones that were inviting them back weren't "top tier." I can't express how foolish that is. Every sorority has similar values. What's important is finding a place where you feel comfortable. You may want XYZ sorority because it's "top tier" but what if you have nothing in common with its members, and what if they don't want you? You would be unhappy and probably drop. You may want ABC sorority because your mom/aunt/sister/etc was in it, but that doesn't mean that's where you belong. Every chapter is different, and every person is different.

I can't stress enough that you should forever keep an open mind throughout recruitment and give it a chance. You can't possibly know which sorority you want on the first day, and you can't quit before you even get started. You have until initiation to feel it out and test the waters. Why not give it a chance before canceling it out? Anyway, that's my thoughts on it. Congrats to all the girls who found their homes, and good luck to all the ladies at other schools who are going, or will be going, through recruitment :-)

Congratulations to you on finding your home! Phi Mu is a wonderful organization with amazing women! (Slight hijack, but is it just me, or have this year's PNMs really been mature about the process and finding their lifelong home?)
