Hesitant question
I only have vague second-hand information, but it's disturbing enough to make me ask. Do the groups sometimes try to sabotage each other during recruitment?
|
I hope not. I would not go into detail here.
|
There are some schools that are very un-Panhellenic. But I would say they are the exception and not the rule.

I would never go into any kind of detail, and I hesitated to even ask the question however vaguely.

Just a few weeks ago, a friend of mine mentioned that the chapters at her school were always trying to “sabotage” each other during recruitment. I asked her point black what she meant. She replied that chapters were always trying to “steal” other chapters’ legacies and girls from their hometowns. I actually laughed and said I didn’t think there was anything wrong with that and it shouldn’t be considered “sabotage” at all. That all the girls were fair game so to speak. However, she was adamant that these were acts of “sabotage" and stood by her use of the word. |
And TSteven, you are treading on thin ice with that woman. Best to just nod and back away!

You are so right on that. Believe you me; I understood from her tone to leave it alone. I mumbled something about how fraternities and sororities are different and we quickly moved on.

Smart man!!

There are schools where people get a little too anal about frills violations (we've talked about that on here). As far as "stealing" legacies or the like, I'm sure that if you are the legacy chapter and the girl decides she likes another one better than yours after you counted on her, you would call that "stealing" whether the other chapter did anything any more than be nice and courteous.
