Rushing at FSU- Worried about GPA
Hello everyone!
I will be rushing at FSU this fall. As matter of fact, I move in on Sunday for Recruitment. I started at FSU this summer for the Summer C semester. Due to some unfortunate situations this summer, I ended up making a D in one of my classes. I took 6 hours this summer. I made a B+ in my other class. My cumulative GPA for the summer ended up being a 2.0... My high school GPA was a 3.3 and I'm sure FSU added its own weighting with my honors and AP classes. So basically, I am REALLY REALLY worried that I won't be able to get in any bids because I have a poor GPA in college now. Do you think my summer GPA will really affect my chances of getting a bid? Im very interested in greek life and this is something I really want to take part in. I'll take any advice please! Thank you and I hope everyone has a great day. :) |
Since you only have 2 college classes under your belt wouldn't you still be classified as a freshman therefore your HS GPA would be the one used?

You don't have to bump. When the people who know how FSU handles grades come by, they'll post. All I can add is, you can't do anything about it now. if you get released, study hard and do better than that this fall. Try to do informal and if that doesn't work out, rerush next fall. You didn't just happen to make a D. You need to figure out why you didn't excel in that class and fix the problem. Things won't be any easier when you have a full class load AND are pledging a sorority.

That is unfortunate -- you should probably look into FSU's academic forgiveness policy regardless. There isn't anything you can do to change it before recruitment begins, however.
I don't have any idea to what extent your summer GPA will affect your recruitment -- but on the potential up side, the recommendations written on your behalf that chapters have already received would have highlighted your high school GPA. Try not to worry about what you can't change at this point -- focus on the things still within your control moving forward. Good luck -- hope it all works out for you. |
So should I drop out of rush for the fall if my Summer GPA has already been messed up? Because I know the lowest GPA for any of the sororities is a 2.5 at FSU. Is there any chance still even though its just a summer term?

And I would phrase the question something like this :"I completed 6 hours of college credit during Summer C. Will the sororities be looking at that GPA or my HS GPA or both? After you get that answer (and I hope they give you an answer, not the party line "grade requirements and membership selection are confidential and vary from sorority to sorority"), base your decision dependent on what the answer is. If you feel that you stand a better chance waiting until spring recruitment, retake the class you got the D in [which means taking it this fall] (and someone advised look into grade forgiveness-you should) and working your butt of to get the best grades you can-study, study, study! In addition, you should get involved in at least one campus activity. |
I called them today, and the office said that some sororities will be more strict about it and some will not. She said that they will understand I just started college so they will take that into consideration. She said I should still go for it, but that doesn't mean I'm guaranteed a bid.
Will I be eliminated from most sororities right off if they do consider this GPA? I just don't want to be embarrassed. |

Potentially in the plus column -- do you have several stellar recs to each chapter? Are your activities, leadership, honors, etc impressive enough to potentially offset the summer snafu? |
