Arizona state university rush questions??
hey guys!
I recently just registered for rush at Arizona State and I am so apprehensive about it all. First, I am entering as a technical freshman with 18 units. my GPA is a 3.4 with that, but my high school GPA is a 2.7 which is kind of depressing to look back on. And to add on, I'm a bit older (19) as compared to the fresh from high school kids. Is there anyone with experience who knows how they would view my grades? There was only an option to send my high school transcripts, so I did  Second, I didn't think to get any letters of recommendation. Does anybody know if its too late for me to send any in? or if i could make it without them? I really did not know anything about sororities at all when I registered, other then that it sounded like something that I might really want to do. So I went for it! I don't know anybody in Sororities, and It didn't feel right asking strangers to write a letter for me. thanks :D also this is my first post here, so... HI! |
First, quit worrying. It doesn't help and will suck precious time from your summer.
Now, I don't understand what "technical freshman" means. Are your 18 hours in AP or from classes at ASU? If you don't have hours at ASU, then I would really ask your rec writers (and I'd be digging some up for just this purpose) to explain that you had a mediocre high school GPA but a good college one, and why. If you do have a GPA from ASU, your college GPA is what will count. 19 is not "older." You're fine and this is REALLY over-worrying. |

my 18 hours are just from regular classes at an out of state community college. thank you, haha I know I should stop worrying! All my friends are getting Rec letters but I have no Idea how to get them. ASU said they were optional, but then I came on here and people were saying that I would need one for each house, and I started to get stressed haha. |
Someone correct me, but won't her college GPA be the one that counts? My understanding is once you have college time, your high school GPA doesn't count.

As for getting recs, ask every woman you know if they were in a sorority. I've been an alum for over two years and am still finding women who I have known since I was a baby who are alums of sororities. It isn't too late. Too late is only after recruitment starts. |

I'll ask everyone I know! I'm just not sure who to send them to! |

so ASU doesn't have a greek row, and none of the sororities have addresses to send the letters of recommendation to  Does anyone know how they usually do this process?
|
They do have addresses, and any alumna sending a rec about you will know where to send it.
|
Trust us - the alums know how to get the rec to the chapter.

It is not to late to get recommendations in. Most of the chapters will have an address listed somewhere on a website or Facebook page. Any one writing them for you will have access as well to those addresses. Recommendations are not required but they give the Chapters an introduction to you and in some cases and invite back to round 2. ASU looks poised to have a BIG recruitment this year. Numbers are way up. My advice is to NOT listen to tent talk it is usually is not accurate, keep an open mind. All the Chapters do the same things and follow the process to the end. Do not drop out. There is no obligation that when you get to the end of recruitment you have to join. There have been many people who have changed their minds completely about a Chapter after going through their Preference Parties. Good luck to you. Come back and write a recruitment story. There are very few from the PAC 12 that get written. |

On my application I just put that I was "other", because I have 18 Credits which doesn't classify me as sopmore yet... but also I'm not a first time freshman haha. I was hoping they would understand that because I had no idea what to put! I wish had known about this site :D I definitely will come back and write a story! thank you for the advice. |
