Florida Stand Your Ground: Jordan Davis

The differences far outweigh the similarities with the Trayvon Martin incident. I believe Michael Dunn will fail at the Stand Your Ground defense and will get convicted for shooting into a car filled with teenagers and killing Jordan Davis.

Kevin, I definitely agree.

I actually think nonstop comparisons to Trayvon Martin will not have the desired outcome but....

Jordan Davis Is Trayvon Martin, But That Isn't Enough to Get Him Media Attention

This gas station is just near my house. Stop in there to buy gas often.
I don't think Michael Dunn can claim SYG on this one.
I truly believe Jordan's family will get justice. What a heartbreaking story.

This story really hurts my heart. Jordan's mother, Lucia McBath, is also one of my Sorors.
I have been heavily following this since it happened. I'm hoping that this will get more coverage in the next few weeks with the court case happening at the end of the month. I agree this is vastly different from the Trayvon Martin case. I can't believe they are trying to use "Stand your Ground" laws on this one.

DrPhil 08-20-2013 04:36 PM

I didn't know his mother is a Soror. Thanks for telling me. Silence in these types of cases can sometimes be a good thing. It can mean things are working out without the public having to outcry like the Martin case.

Jury has reached a verdict on all counts

I am watching CNN and the jury just walked out "with a verdict".

Then the jury announced it is deadlocked.

The jury was sent out of the courtroom and the judge explained to Michael Dumbass that for one count (count 1) there will be declared a mistrial.

Verdict for counts 2-5:
GUILTY

This was followed by a jury count.

Go to hell, Michael Dumbass.

AOII Angel 02-15-2014 08:01 PM

Sigh.

DrPhil 02-15-2014 08:04 PM

I respect the law and respect the role of attorneys in doing what they legally have to do to accomplish the goals.

So many parts of Michael Dumbasses' story were ridiculous and he was too cocky in the beginning.

I want to give Don Lemon a big hug.

Life without parole.

Florida has capital punishment and this is a case I would have liked to see it applied. Not only did this idiot murder in cold blood, he thought he'd be legally justified in doing it. I'm against capital punishment in general, but this would be a good case to send a message with. George Zimmerman used self-defense as a defense to what he allegedly did and it worked. This was a much more clear cut case. This guy is a monster.

Lucia McBath is an amazing woman. She gave an interview to Ta-Nehisi Coates and it was heart-breaking.
