40 Days of Dating

I have to confess, I'm hooked. This is totally a hipster approach to relationships but I love it.

40 Days of Dating

"What do you do when you’re tired of the prospect of dating? Two good friends with opposite relationship problems found themselves single at the same time. As an experiment, they dated for 40 days."

Project Rules

In order to focus on each other and the project, we created a set of rules to follow.
  1. We will see each other every day for forty days.
  2. We will go on at least three dates a week.
  3. We will see a couples therapist once a week.
  4. We will go on one weekend trip together.
  5. We will fill out the daily questionnaire and document everything.
  6. We will not see, date, hookup, or have sex with anyone else.

They started dating in March and have been uploading a new day's relationship diary each day. They're up to day 16 as of this post.

Shoot. I started reading that, but can't finish it right now. I have some predictions about what will happen.. we'll see if I'm right!

Hopefully they continue it! It was interesting to read

Thanks for sharing this - I'm addicted!

They're both much more likable than a thought they would be. I guess I started it with an anti-hipster bias :p

Sounds like an early 2000s movie with Kate Hudson and Josh Hartnett! LOL. I'm sure they will get a movie and book deal out of their "experiment."

sounds exhausting.

however, i'm encouraged to actually click & read based on the responses above.

OMG. I've read all 18 days that have beenposted so far while in flight from Orange County to Chicago. What an emotional mess! I wonder how soon until the next post.

I have so lived their crap. All you have to do to get a guy to like you is stop liking him! And him actually admitting that he's turnedon by her crazy. What?

WhiteRose1912 07-28-2013 07:11 AM

Okay. They're now halfway through the experiment.

I think it's interesting how they talk about having hooked up on day 18 when all they did was make out. I thought "hooking up" was reserved for sex? Educate me, GC!

I predict that they will have sex before it's over, and that they'll tentatively agree to continue dating once it's finished, but I don't think they'll work out long term. They don't seem very well suited for each other romantically and they've both got issues.

I first saw this on Yahoo! and I'm really enjoying it!

So hooking up is pretty broad. When I was in high school making out and hooking up were the same thing. Afterwards that definition changed. I haven't heard any post-collegiate person refer to hooking up as making out before Jess and Tim's use of it.

For me, it has always referred to having some kind of sex with another person (could be anything from manual stimulation to PIV intercourse). Using "hooking up" when you really mean "making out" would be exaggerating.

I have enjoyed reading the blog, but all it has done is reinforce my promise to myself that I will never date again. (Yes, I'm married, but should that ever not be the case....I will never date again.) I really hated dating.

I think this is more of a collegiate term for making out. That's the term we used in college in the '80s and that's the term they use at my daughter's school now. She thought it meant sex, too, and was really aghast at the open talk about lots of people "hooking up" at parties, etc. Then her roommate told her the term was for making out, and she felt relieved that she wasn't going to an orgy school!

Do these exist? My friend wants to know.

Sciencewoman 07-28-2013 12:43 PM

I think your "friend" knows that these schools only exist in the fertile imaginations of certain film makers. ;)
