Obtaining more than one Rec?
Howdy,
In preparation for Formal Recruitment, I've been in contact with the local Alumnae chapters and also the Alumnae Association of my hometown. I know that I can't rely on recommendations or that it's some kind of guaranteeing factor but for my situation rushing as a sophomore, two for each group would still be pretty awesome and I need all of the help that I can get without it being overkill. I feel that I've been pretty fortunate. These women were generous enough to write a stranger(?) like me a recommendation, I would never want to seem ungrateful, self-entitled or even pushy at the slightest. It's kind of awkward over email and not being home for the summer. I am not in the position to ask for assistance in obtaining more recommendations or at least it feels like I'm not. Could I please have some clarification: Would it be a no-no to pursue a neighboring area for recommendations? I had a special case where I had to contact an alumnae chapter of a neighboring area because the one in my home town is inactive and they were willing to help. Would it be inappropriate or sketchy? I'm assuming that they somewhat communicate with each other? Or should I just ask chapters that I've already been connected with? Some have mentioned to let them know if I need anything else... :/ Tell me if I am over-thinking this? |
I wouldn't bother with secondary recommendations except from women you know personally. The only time to get more than one is when you have 2 or 3 women from the same sorority who all want to share something unique and special about you. An information-only rec (what yours will be) does not need to be duplicated.
While you still have a little time, I'd go back and beat the bushes for women you actually know who can write you a rec. If you've got 1 covered for each, you've got the minimum; now try to improve the personal nature. |
Really good advice.
