Affiliating with New Chapter
Note: I'm not sure if this is in the correct thread. If it's not, I apologize
I am considering transferring schools for the spring semester, and I would like to affiliate with a different chapter of my sorority (AOII) at whatever school I end up at. Is this process time consuming or complicated? I have already contacted my adviser at my current university, but I would like to know more about affiliating. I've heard that some girls who transfer and affiliate with a new chapter have to wait a semester before the chapter makes their decision (which would make sense). Would this wait period be like rush and new membership all over again? I really love my sorority and I am just trying to understand how this process works and what will occur during it. |
Every sorority handles transfer affiliation differently. Your HQ would be the best source of info, as I can only speak in general terms or in terms of my own sorority.

Has the new chapter actually been established, or is it a colony?
If it's a colony, you have to wait until it's an actual chapter before you can affiliate. |

Thanks for the help, I will contact HQ and see if they can help me. |
Okeedoke, then.
Yes, contacting your HQ would be the best thing. Every sorority/fraternity does it differently...sometimes there are smaller variations in how different chapters in the same fraternity do it, too. Best of luck to you!:o |
All you would need to do is talk to your current CP and CA to get the appropriate paperwork. You must leave your current chapter in good standing, which they will attest to in said paperwork. There is no waiting period or vote needed to let you affiliate with the new chapter, but I would advise that you take your time and get to know the new chapter BEFORE YOU decide to affiliate. Not all chapters are the same. For every member that transfers and has a great experience in her chapter, their is a member who doesn't affiliate or wishes she didn't because she doesn't feel she fits in. I say this because once you choose to affiliate, you can't go back. You have to pay dues and be active in the chapter until you graduate or depledge. If you hang out for awhile and find out that the girls are not like you, you save yourself a lot of hassle and preserve your AOII membership. If you realize that you can find a place in the chapter, affiliate and jump on in. Good luck! I hope you find a chapter that is the perfect fit for you or at least one you can grow to love. Roses!
