As of earlier this week there were already over 1800 registered for recruitment at Alabama....and it doesn't start for 3 more weeks....

7 rounds of pref parties? Isn't that a little excessive? How many girls are estimated to be at each party?

shirley1929 07-20-2013 03:43 PM

Ok, I totally tried to do the math on that, but my 9th grade algebra was failing me. Go ahead an assume that UA knows what the heck they're doing by not taxing out all their resources and sharing the love amongst more pref parties...

I'm guessing that with quotas approaching 100 that there are fire regulations limiting the number of women that can be at each house at a time, so
the pref party attendance per party needs to be limited.

I was back opening sponsor forms today. They are up to 1888 registered as of yesterday. Bless the folks from Texas! Got a packet from there that had about 10 sponsor forms in it along with letters. And several others with 3-5 in them. While the letters are a nice touch, since we require a sponsor form, we have to set those aside and contact the writer for a signed form. (I know, ladies, but we are Old South and we do things the "right" way.) sigh! So many PNMs and so little time.

Wow! The financial obligation really increased sharply from last year. Is that typical, or do the numbers include additional line items over last year's figures?

KSUViolet06 07-20-2013 10:32 PM

Something to consider: Cost of GL likely increases along with increased costs incurred by the sororities. Ex: If the cooking and housekeeping service has a price increase, that is probably passed along to the members.

Well, at Alabama 4 groups just built new houses and all the rest - except for 2 - will build new ones in the next 5 years. Right now the biggest and most expensive is the 44,000 SF, $12 million Alpha Chi Omega House which is just starting to be built. You do the math.

How many women does a house this large sleep? Wow...44,000 sq. ft. that's massive.

Am not certain but I think about 80. There is a drawing of it on the Alpha Chi page of the Greek Chic link above.....

Very cool place! Love their stuff - inexpensive and very "in." Their leggings are very much the best around....they have a store across the street from my manicurist...have to force myself NOT to go in....

Only 80? I figured it would be more. The larger houses at IU sleep 120ish and the square footage is nowhere near 44,000. With chapters as large as the ones at Bama at Arkansas, I assume there has to be one pretty large meeting room which doubles as the dining room so a majority of members can take meal plans?
