Recommendation Letters HELP
My name is Megan and I will be attending UT-Austin in the fall. About a week ago, my sister brought up the idea of sororities and convinced me to join one. I have registered at UT and, after going through several channels to find the information, contacted the Alumnae association in the city where I graduated high school today. I also have my resume, transcript, and picture.
My problem is recommendation letters. Luckily, my sister is friends with one or 2, so I should have those, but otherwise, I'm at a loss. I currently live in Dallas and would appreciate any help. P.S. If any alumnae from the Dallas area are reading this and are willing to write a recommendation letter, I would be more than happy to talk with you at a Starbucks (or similar places), my treat :D Thank you in advance! |
If you have lived in Dallas for more than 5 minutes you know sorority women; you just don't know that they're sorority women. Start networking! There are tons of threads here on how to find alumnae. Go back and read them and then kick it into high gear.

Dallas Alumnae Panhellenic can help you find recommendations. Check the list of alumnae here: http://www.dallaspanhellenic.org/DAP...andout2013.pdf
You should ask your teachers, coaches, neighbors, camp counselors, and members of your church. They can give you personal recs. |
To the original poster....ask every adult female you know. Your teachers all went to college there is a chance they are Greek. If they are Greek, there is a chance they have friends who are Greek. Ask your neighbors. Ask the parents of your friends and then ask the friends of your parents! As adults, the majority of us do not wear Greek paraphernalia, so you can't automatically know if we are Greek or not. This is why I wear my badge on international badge day! :-)

KDCat: I was denied by them because my school was in a different city (but I did try them first). Also, I don't go to church... but I'd ask if I did :P
IndianaSigKap: Also something I tried. Unfortunately the college alumnae I know don't have any Greek associates and the women around me only give me a collective of one or two alumnae..... I'm working on it... thank you for all the advice ^.^ |

thetalady: Yes, but unfortunately there was no website nor a place with any information. I finally got ahold of the president today (...well, yesterday) after getting updated info. I sent her my resume, transcripts, and photo (as she requested). She said she'd try, but deadlines HAVE passed T.T

Did you check with the city panhel where your school is? You can also try the Austin Panhel: http://www.austinpanhellenic.org/contact.html |
Check the national web sites for the groups you need. Most have local groups listed and you could contact them that way.

How exciting Megan!
Totally agree with what others have said. Have you tried using Facebook to let you friends (and maybe your sister and your parents do the same) to let their friends know you are going through recruitment and see if any of them may be willing to help? That might help you narrow down folks to ask more personally. Have you tried contacting your former high school teachers? They know you well, and may be able to provide your info to others who have helped other students. I would also suggest that whatever you do (work, volunteer, go to school, etc) with your time - you use that opportunity to ask those social circles about their (or their friends) sorority experience. That can help you find others to help with recommendations. I think there are a few threads on Greek Chat about Letters of Recommendation and UT Recruitment. Hope you can get a chance to read those! Good luck! |
