Dresses for Alabama Rush 2013
Hi, I'm a PNM going through UA 2013 recruitment in less than a month! I'm getting so frustrated trying to find dresses. Do you guys have any suggestions for places to shop? Also, would a spaghetti strap dress be okay if it isn't too low cut or anything?
I took the dress down so that nobody can figure out who I am. Thank you for your help! :) |
Really cute dress - but I would say it would be better for skit day.
Spaghetti straps for Ice Water Teas are usually ok, but they can get uncomfortable after a while on a long hot day. You don't want something that will make you fidgety. I have seen several women wearing strapless dresses for prefs. (with <ahem> GOOD foundation garments....) |
I agree. Pref should be more like a cocktail dress without sequins or rhinestones on it. And please, any strapless dresses - proper undergarments and NO PULLING IT UP AT THE BUST IN PUBLIC! If it's falling down, you shouldn't be wearing it.
|
But the dress is super cute, so go ahead and wear it for the day BEFORE pref if you like it too.

Thanks for all your feedback! I'll just use that one for skit.. and I'm only 5'2" so hopefully it isn't too short! I would be pretty upset. Finding dresses seems even harder than finding recs!
If that wouldn't be a good pref dress, could someone please give me some examples of dresses that are? I'm having a hard time knowing exactly what I need, especially because I heard that you shouldn't have black or white! |
LOVE THAT DRESS, but I agree that it would be better for skit day!!!! If you are 5'2", the length should be okay. The Red Dress boutique models are fairly tall and the site tells you how tall they are, which is helpful.
As for prefs., you can use the 2012 Greekchic as a guide (the 2013 guide is not out yet): http://issuu.com/katgillan/docs/greek_chic_2012_final And i realize this is the in-state rival, but Auburn panhellenic suggested these types of dresses for pref: https://fp.auburn.edu/greek/recpicsprefcolor.jpg |
Re pref dresses....one of the big things is just to get out of the juniors section and look at the misses. You need a more "grown up" dress than Charlotte Russe et al.

I saw this one -
http://shop.nordstrom.com/s/tadashi-...esults-_-1_2_A It is probably more than what I would pay - but really pretty. This one is pretty too and on sale http://shop.nordstrom.com/S/adrianna...sults-_-1_18_B |
What about skirts and cute tops for open house and skit? My D is hard to fit in dresses but has several nice skirt ensembles that can be dressed up or down. Thoughts?

One of those lace overlay skirts and a cute tank would work for skit day. |
Skirts and blouses for open house rounds should be fine. It would depend on the outfit as to whether a skirt and blouse would work for skit round. Are you able to post photos of the outfits your daughter was considering?
Skirt and blouse ensemble suggested for ice water rounds at Auburn(from the Auburn Panhellenic site): https://fp.auburn.edu/greek/RecpicsIWT.jpg And some skirt/blouse combos for skit round at Auburn: https://fp.auburn.edu/greek/recpicsskitdayideas.jpg Looking in the 2012 Greek Chic, the suggested attire at Bama for Skit Day is "a nice dress with comfortable shoes or flats." Just remember that this round of parties precedes Preference Round, and each round the outfits get dressier, so a skirt/blouse combo for Skit Round should be dressier than the 1st round outfits, but not as dressy as her Pref. outfit. |
I wish I could post pictures, but alas that is beyond me...
Besides, she's dragging her feet and I'm the one losing sleep over her wardrobe! She has nice stuff - Lilly and Vineyard Vines skirts and cute tops to match, though cute may not be what we're going for. Her mission this weekend is to pull out everything so we can go through it and weed out what we know won't work, narrow down what will, and then shop. Unfortunately for her, I'm not much of a shopper or clothes horse and hardly know where to begin. Her older sister fills that void, but she's taking classes this summer and isn't in town. |

ladybug84 - is she long or short waisted? Check at Macy's in the career-type section of juniors, they sometimes have matching tops and skirts that would kind of look like a dress once it's on. |
She's short-waisted, just enough to make "fit" hard to come by...and she's short, so alterations will probably be needed. Thankfully, I have a friend who does that for us, but we have to get moving. Our first step is to see what she's got -which is a lot - but I don't know if it's what she needs.
And we waited this late because....? |
