No Spring Rush at KU due to New Zeta Chapter?
I heard that the Univ of Kansas sororities are not having Spring Informal Recruitment this spring because the Zeta's are establishing a chapter at KU.
If this is true, why would the other sororities still not hold their spring recruitments for any openings they might have? Also, how does recruitment work for establishing a new chapter at a school? Will the new chapter officials notify the girls that didn't get bids during the Fall Formal Recruitment of their recruitment? Also, how do they build a new chapter and get enough girls to join right away to support the chapter? I wasn't in a sorority so all of this is new to me. Thanks! |
Midwest Mom,
It's common for campus Panhellenics to temporarily suspend Recruitment when a new chapter is colonizing on a campus. It allows the new chapter to become established and reach campus total sooner. After the new chapter is established, Informal Recruitment will be reinstated on campus. The colonization opportunity will be heavily advertised on campus and it is up to the campus Panhellenic on whether or not they will separately notify women that didn't place during Formal Recruitment. On most campuses, those are the women first contacted by the oncoming group, but not always. In addition, a national recruitment team will come to campus during the weeks prior to the colonization to hold informational meetings, interviews, etc. to promote the new chapter. Also, members of chapters in the region will come to campus and hold Recruitment events to populate the new chapter once an event schedule is created. After the chapter is established, it will have a Chapter Mentor oversee the chapter's work. In addition, there will be a full advisory board put in place and a Traveling Leadership Consultant or Graduate Consultant will stay with the chapter for several weeks to make sure things are on track and moving forward. The TLC will revisit the chapter several times during the chapter's first year until it is established and running well. Advisors and the Province President will help guide the chapter on day-to-day activities and the local alumnae chapter will provide support as well. |
Thanks for the info. Another question:
Does anyone know for sure if the Zeta's are establishing a chapter at the Univ. of Kansas (KU) this spring? If so, are there any details available, i. e. quota or location, etc? Thanks! |
ZTA is planning on opening a colony at KU. I don't have any dates, etc. as of right now. You can contact the fraternity at:
zetataualpha@zetataualpha.org As far as quota, etc. the new chapter will only be allowed to take as many members as is set as total for that campus. Location of events, etc. would be advertised/coordinated through the KU Greek Life office and ZTA officials. |
