Convention 2015

Convention 2015 will once again be in Orlando at the Swan and Dolphin Resorts. Is it only me who is not excited about ANOTHER convention in Orlando?

I'm crashing, but... when was the last convention that was in Orlando?

The only convention I've been to was in 2006 and it was in Orlando. It was fun because I hadn't been there in forever. To be a kid again and ride the rides at the Magic Kingdom was a great time.. especially when doing it with a bunch of sisters.

However, if my sorority had another convention in Orlando in the not-so-distant future, I don't know that I'd be that thrilled. In addition to being a collegian the first time around and now being a little older, I'd also want to see some new places and have a different experience. I think I'd probably feel the same way if we had a repeat of any city within, say, a ten year window.

It seems like Disney World and desert resorts out West are the hot spots for sorority conventions in recent years. I'm pretty pumped about DPhiE's convention in Florida next year, but I've never been to Disney World before ( chasing 7th graders around Epcot on spring break doesn't count).

The last time we were in Orlando was 2009. We were in Tucson in 2011 and Boston 2013.

I'm not really here or there. I'm hoping to go to 2015 convention (haven't been to one!) and Florida isn't exactly on the top of my to visit lists.

I don't know if anyone was at the white rose banquet last night, but I was really confused about why it was being held in Orlando yet again, until Beth said that Orlando was where she was first appointed to national council and also where she was elected President... Not that I'm saying its the right thing to do, I just understand a little about why it's there again, since she's retiring from the presidency

Does that mean convention will constantly be returning to Orlando since the new President next year will be elected in Orlando next year?

She is also from Florida, Tallahassee specifically. She is from the FSU chapter. With all the connections and ease of travel (Tallahassee to Orlando is much easier to Boston or where ever), she may be more inclined to go there.

I agree. it seems like Scottsdale & Florida, are the only places for the Convention. What's wrong with Chicago or Indy? Memphis? Geez there's more to see than Mouse Ears USA. I wish I could have gone to Boston.

It was absolutely amazing this year.

And I'm definitely agreeing. I feel like every conference I ever go to is in Orlando, a change of scenery would be much appreciated.

The 2014 NCTA (collegian training for councils) is in Chicago. They seem to pick better places for NCTA than convention!

I'm excited for Orlando, but I am always secretly hoping for an Opryland/Nashville Convention. After everything that facility went through after the floods, it would be nice to be able to support them. (Not to mention that Nashville's just a fabulous place to do something like that!)

I have a feeling the reason AZ keeps happening for sorority conventions is that summer months are dirt cheap in AZ! Who the heck wants to go somewhere where the average temp is 110? I have a feeling the same can be said for FL as it is hot and humid during those summer months.

We are back in AZ in 2015.

2005- AZ
2007- Boston
2009- Orlando
2011- AZ
2013- Dallas
2015- AZ

TennesseeKD- I too would LOVE to see a convention for ADPi in Nashville, as I only live an hour away in Clarksville.

Ladies, don't complain - when I attended my first Convention (I was being awarded the Order of the Emerald), I traveled to Kansas City, Missouri!

Woohoo!

WCsweet<3 01-10-2014 08:52 PM

Nice to see you back here Kdonline!

Disney doesn't like to let organizations sign contracts for only one convention - if I remember right, they made KD agree to have 3 conventions there.
