Going Greek but really confused :S

I am moving to the US for university from Canada and I thought joining a sorority would be a great opportunity to dive into college life and find a group of girls who you can really connect with. I also like the idea of supporting a philanthropy because I love community service projects. But the university I am going is apparently very competitive and recommendations are strongly advised. I have never heard about recommendations in Canada and I have no idea where to get them. Can someone help me and point me in the right direction? I have no idea how this works :S Thanks so much!!!!!

Please please please... READ!!! There are numerous threads on GreekChat about finding recommendations when you think you don't know any sorority alumnae. Here is the best one:

Recommendations

I would suggest that you read ALL of the stickied threads in the Sorority Recruitment section.

It is getting really hot & some of us are getting a little cranky with the heat already ;)

It is often better if the rec writer is someone who knows you personally. However, if your mother/father/brother/cousin/co-worker knows a person who is a member of an organization that you have no other connection to, then yes it is fine. Many areas also have panhellenic or organization specific alumnae organizations that may be able to help you when you have no other connections.

I went to school in Canada, so thankfully I didn't have to find recs, but yes, it can be extremely difficult above the 49th parallel :( If you just PM me your city, I could see if I know anyone there who might be able to help in some way. Good luck!!

You don't way which part of Canada you are in but there is an Alumnae Panhellenic in the Toronto Area which may be able to help. Look on https://www.npcwomen.org/ for contact info.
