should I rush?
Yes, I posted this in the intro, but with 66 views and no answer, I hopes its appropriate to post here..
Hello everyone. Just got accepted as a UTexas transfer. About me? Iv been working as a part time (20yold) professional auto mechanic while getting my 2year degree, while also preparing for Engineering school. Just got accepted to Cockrell. (unlike most engineer majors, I still maintain an outgoing life). I'v been working in the professional field, but now I'm quitting and going back to school mode. Just moved to Austin, I need to get myself out there again, as I was pretty outgoing in highschool. Should I look at joining a brotherhood? I'm just curious as to how I should research my living situation. If i were to join a fraternity, I would most likely live in the house. In that case, I wouldn't look for apartments this summer. Sound accurate? Any input? Hit it up. Thanks guys/girls |
There are no guarantees in rush. I wouldn't count on getting a bid and being initiated. So look for housing this summer and CYA.
As a general matter, whenever you sign a lease, ask about fees/costs if you have to break your lease early. When you rush, you can ask about living in the house and if there are any live in requirements. I can't speak for every organization, but some chapters will pay the fee to break a lease if there is a spot to fill in the house. |
You should definitely rush, but there's no way you can know right now if you'd be able to live in the house right away. It may not be an option for pledges, could be full, etc. Just plan to find an apartment like you would if you weren't rushing and go from there. Best of luck during rush and I hope you find a great brotherhood.

If you're interested, you should certainly rush, but still look into housing options. Perhaps you can find apartments with a monthly lease (I know this isn't the most attractive option) otherwise you may have to find a sublet for your apartment. You may even end up rushing but realizing it's not for you, or may join an organization but not be able to immediately move into the house anyway.
