UC Davis?

Does anyone know about recruitment at UC Davis? Competitive? Need Recs?

I'm assuming "no" to either of those, but also am curious if it's one of those schools that would freak out if they got a RIF on someone...?

I did a google/greekchat search and all I could find was fraternity recruitment and the "Sorority Life" show that MTV did about 10 years ago. Just the mere fact that there's not much/any information here speaks volumes to me about it's laid-backness?

Quoting the UC Davis Greek Life website:
"Send a request to the Greek Life Office to join the GoGreek email list. You'll receive weekly updates about all of the upcoming Greek events you're welcome to attend to get an idea of what it's like to be Greek at UCD. Go to as many of them as possible or go to just the ones hosted by groups that interest you.

There are 10 sororities (9 NPC & 1 non-NPC) on campus, so while some California schools are laid back on Recruitment, a RIF could be a nice introduction to each chapter that the women, who don't try to find RIF's, would not get.

Best bet it to contact UC Davis Greek Life.

They should be able to answer your questions.

Thanks ChioLu - my friend (who's daughter is headed there) had seen all that, I was just trying to figure out if it was a school that would freak if they even got a RIF.

I know those kinds of schools are out there...a foreign concept to me down south!

I attended a different West Coast school, but I can tell you that I have friends in Theta and Alpha Chi at UCDavis, and they love love love it!

The sister of Michelle Williams (Actress, "My Week With Marilyn", "Dawson's Creek" -- not the Destiny's Child singer) is a Chi Omega from UC Davis. I believe she graduated about 6-7 years ago.

I'm the advisory team chairman for the DG chapter at Davis. It's not competitive in the sense of having to do a lot of prep or get all new outfits or anything. There is an interesting system of having an actual upperclassmen quota (i.e., juniors), so I think it's probably hardest to get a bid as a sophomore. We get quite a few RIFs, maybe 20% of the PNMs, so if you can get them you absolutely should and no one will freak out. We also don't get access to ICS until right before recruitment starts, so PNMs get a big leg up if they send in recs and the chapters know who they are.

Also, only the 8 NPCs participate in FR.

I'm happy to answer any other questions about Davis. It's a different campus for sure than what I was used to at Duke or UC Berkeley when I advised there.

Thank you SO much everyone! (esp DukeDG!)

My pleasure. There is not much demand for Davis info here, so I get excited when someone asks. The women really do seem to have a great time in sororities here!
