Original songs that you think are awful, but you like the remake and vice versa
I am terrible at thread titles, so maybe I might be able to explain what I think would be a fun thread.
Okay GCers, this is a two part thread. Here's the first part: What original song(s) do you dislike so much, that it's to the point where you want to plug your ears when you hear it. But, the remake of that same song from a different artist, you love, and could listen to it all day long? Second part: What original song(s) do you love, but you think were butchered by a remake of the same song(s) from a different artist? |
I like Atari's version of Boys of Summer more than the original (Don Henley) version. Ditto non-Leonard Cohen versions of Hallelujah (I like Cohen, and love "Suzanne" but his Hallelujah doesn't do it for me).
It's been driving me crazy recently when I get excited thinking A-Ha's Take on Me is coming on the radio but then it turns out to be a stupid Pitbull (?) song. The only time I haven't been disappointed by a rap using a hook like that was Jay-Z's Young Forever (using the best parts of Alphaville's Forever Young). |
Wagon Wheel - Old Crow Medicine Show <-- I think that's a fine song.
Darius Rucker's remake, though? *gags* |
I like OCMS' remake better than the Bob Dylan original. In general I don't care for Dylan as a singer.

While it's a close race, I still like Quietdrive's remake of "Time after Time" better than Cyndi Lauper's original.

Landslide - I much prefer Fleetwood Mac's original over the Dixie Chicks' remake

Do covers count?
Afroblue did a cover of Mariah Carey's "We Belong Together" that I love. MC's version is really meh and lacks depth. On anothe note I feel like I'm SUPPOSED TO like the original "This Woman's Work" but the woman who sings it sounds really whiny. |

"You Spin Me Round".
Original, by Dead or Alive = awesome. Recent remix by Flo Rida = awful. |
