Bama Sophomore Rushing in Fall

I am a rising sophomore at UA and plan to rush in Fall. I did not rush last Fall because I was participating in Alabama Action (Honors college service learning course) the same week as rush. This was a bad life decision because I was sort of lost my first semester without a good group of friends as a support system because all my friends were busy with swaps and new member priorities and building relationships with their sisters. I bombed and now have a 3.1 gpa. I was still very involved on campus and within my major my Freshman year.

I just want to be realistic about my chances of even being considered at the bigger houses. I am still very open minded seeing as I never went through rush myself and don't want to just base things off of other girls' opinions. However, I do not want to put myself through all this if it is just not realistic.

Once again, I ask....why would the school schedule something this way? (I ask the school, not you, Nolaprep :) )

You know, several of the SEC schools schedule major happenings for freshmen the week of recruitment. The big thing that used to conflict at AU was band and there were a lot of girls who wanted to do both. As I recall, the girls would get to attend a few parties, not sure how much choice they had.

My niece made the dance line at Jacksonville State and they let her choose the 3 parties she wanted to attend most on the day of first invitationals.

However, my high school gpa was above a 4.0, I was president of National Honors Society, captain of multiple sports teams and just all around really involved in high school. I was still very involved on campus and within my major my Freshman year.

She is very smart, sweet, driven, and attractive; however, since she did not spend much time at the houses, she did not have much recognition or time with the actives and was dropped from all the big houses after the first 2 rounds.

They tell girls it's possible to do both, but you lose a lot of the experience and full opportunity of both activities.
Don't know why they do it when they know how the very involved girls on campus want to be able to join a sorority as well as stay involved in big academic activities.

Whatever do you mean about chances with the "big houses?" I would hope that a sophomore with a less than optimal GPA would realize she needs to keep a very open mind and feel blessed that any house would be interested in her. What you did so far in college is what matters and none of your high school activities or grades mean anything.
