Recruitment question. Please help!:)
Alright I kind of have an unusual situation. I started a freshman during fall ’12 and didn’t do well, so I moved back home (40 miles) to go to the community college which is part of the University to get my grades back up. I am returning in the fall, as a second semester freshman. I really want to rush, because I have lots of good friends in the Greek system at my school. My GPA will be the minimum or maybe not quite the minimum but I have worked really hard to get it back up. But I was wondering, when they see my GPA will they see that as growth? Or cut me because it possibly may not fit the requirement. My school isn’t in the south or one of those schools where recruitment is the biggest thing ever; it’s kind of laid back at my school. Also, does it help that I am quite close with many girls in different sororities? Will I get a chance to tell my reasoning for not doing so well before? Sorry for all the questions, I just feel like I have a confusing situation. I’m a very outgoing and friendly person and I feel like Greek life is a good fit for me, but I don’t know if my chances will be hindered by my weird situation. Thank you all so much!

Yes, your lower GPA could mean some houses will drop you. They all have a minimum GPA to pledge, and yours could be under that. Or not. We don't know the specifics. However, the fact that you have friends in the sororities is good - they'll know the situation and can explain it to their sisters. This is also where recommendations can help. The alumnae writing the rec can explain your grade situation, and how you've worked to bring it up. One way or another, you've done all you can about your grades. Now you can polish your conversation skills, and work on your wardrobe. Best of luck!:) |
