recs

Hi I am not sure as to whether I will be rushing in the fall but I think I might. I would be rushing as a sophomore and I attend an sec school and many people say it is very competitive in greek life so that you need recommendations. I have friends in different sororities but I've read that some chapters does not allow active members to write recommendations. I was wondering whether anyone on greekchat actually writes recommendations for people they meet on greekchat. I am not a legacy and most people I know in sororities have just been initiated this year so I don't have connections to people that could write me recs necessarily.

There are tons of threads on how to obtain recs here, since usually recs come from sorority alumnae. But GreekChat members don't write recs for you, you'll have to get them from people you know (have you asked teachers/neighbours/people at your place of worship/parents of friends etc? You know people who are Greek, you just might not be aware they are), or from your local Panhellenic Alumnae Association if you really can't find anyone for certain sororities.

Search the sorority recruitment forum here, you will find everything you need.

You say you know members of sororities. If so, even if they can't write a rec, they'll know alumnae who can to whom they can introduce you.

Your sorority friends have graduating seniors in their chapters. Once they graduate, they will be alumnae. Thus, they can connect you to brand-new alumnae! :) Talk to them now: they can send the recs on graduation day!

Your sorority friends at your school already got recs for their recruitment, so ask them for help. You can be introduced to their former sponsors.

There are tons of posts here about recs and recruitment. Contact your hometown alumnae Panhellenic for assistance with recs, too.

You sound like you're not sure about going through the process. Getting recommendations takes time and effort. Good luck!

Not necessarily.
Some groups insist on a rec signed by someone from the PNM's hometown, or even a particular someone.
First, ask around your hometown. Those girls you know in sororities? Ask them who signed their rec.
Put in some effort - you'll be surprised.
But first, read the rec threads here.

Make a list of every female you know who went to college: teachers, employers, coaches, church people, friends of your parents, people your parents work for/with,etc. Then, ask those people if they are Greek and which group. Then ask them if they know anyone in the groups you still need.

You have not networked at all. Get moving! It's the middle of April already!
