Sample Budget needed
Hi I am an advisor for a local sorority in DC. The treasurer did not do a good job with the budget, as result, we are missing 3K. So I have been searching online for a sample budget but couldn't find it. If you can share your budget with me, it would be great (you can remove all the amounts etc). So I can start on working on budget worksheet for the treasurer -
For example, each member is required to pay dues (300) a semester and we do the breakdown of the 300 - like 80 goes to banquet, 30 go to gas, 30 go to food etc. So banquet has a budget depending on the number of members who pay dues. I hope you understand what I am trying to say. Let me know if anyone of you will be able to help me out to get the budget worksheet set up. Thanks Shannon Augustine Delta Epsilon Sorority |
We aren't allowed to share ours but I'll give you the basics. You need to start with the expense side first. List all the things you want the chapter itself to pay for (not things you want the individuals to pay for like tee shirts, etc). We add 10% to that for surplus plus whatever pledging and initiation fees are. If you are trying to build a surplus to add to the house or whatever long term project you may have, you could pro rate it and add to the revenue side as well. Some groups pay for formals, etc out of chapter funds and some the members pay individually. You'd have to decide that as well.

Microsoft has tons of sample budgets.

If might be more helpful if you and the treasurer worked on this project together.

Shannon,
Can you reach out to the campus Greek Adviser or the Dean of Student Activities to see how other campus organizations manage their budget? That might be very helpful, because then you will have a live person with experience with whom to troubleshoot questions. You might also see if you can talk to a local accountant who has experience with non-profits. Good luck! |
