Brooklyn New York Public Library

Hello, is there anyone on GC who lives near the Brooklyn Public Library who might be able to hep me with a little research? They have a collection of old yearbooks and I am wanting to have someone look at them for me, as I live in Ohio.... Please PM or respond if you do, and may be able to help.

Thanks.

Have you tried emailing the BPL reference department and asking directly?

Yeah, they won't do the research, and don't lend out the books. I would need to go there and look through the books. Since I'm in Ohio, that's not feasible.

I was just hoping someone lived in the area who might be interested in helping.

Thanks

although they might not lend the books to you, they might be willing to engage in an interlibrary loan.

are you university affiliated? if so, the university library can submit an "ILL" request on your behalf. sometimes (but it varies greatly) your local public library might be able to do the same.

There are some websites who have yearbooks. Have you tried searching that way? And do they have a research librarian? They'll usually help. I used them a lot in the days before the Internet.

E-Yearbook.com is $20 for a year's subscription. As for free options, some schools (like Bama and Auburn, off the top of my head) and the Internet Archive have digitized yearbooks as well.

Thanks to all, I have a subscription to both e-yearbook and Classmates.com, neither of these sites have any copies of the books I need that are in the Brooklyn Library. And ILL is not available for these books as they are considered "reference use only." I am affiliated with both my local university and the public library, of which I can request any books that are in the "world cat" system, but some titles are unavailable.

I have been fortunate to be able to visit many libraries, and archives around me, and in neighboring states, and on some vacations (so long as my wife let me...) but NY is one location I am unable to get to, and have no plans in the forseeable future.

Thanks again for the advise, and hopefully someone will be able to get there and look up some stuff for me.

Cheers!
