$160,000 Embezzlement Charged (alleged) : U of Rhode Island Alpa Phi
 

The former director of Greek Life at Tufts has been charged with embezzling around $160,000 from the Alpha Phi chapter while she was on the corporation board there at URI. She has been kicked out of Alpha Phi. See

Sad. I remember a story about another Alpha Phi a few years ago who did something similar. Sadly, there's always a bad apple in the bunch.

The corporation boards have a lot of power and not much oversight. At least that was the case back in my days.

I remember our chapter spending over $15,000 (that would be about $31,000 today) on redecorating our informal living room and the end result was a bunch of particle board crap and a couple of framed prints that looked like they came from Big Lots. We always kind of wondered where that money really went.

This is my chapter and the news is old. Not sure why it's making the rounds again. I think what you are thinking of is the same situation.
