Inverted Racist (Anti-American(USA)) Parties?
From a thread on another board that came up in regards to the recent events at Duke and Penn State
What would a party look like at a student group (fraternity or similar) some place *other* than the United States that would be USA themed and would contain such negative stereotypes that you'd find objection of Americans either at the school or elsewhere? I mean even if you told everyone to show up in Fat Suits, Military Fatigues the color of US Money with boots spattered with Red Paint(Blood), would it even *make* US news? There seems to be exactly *one* thing that could be done at the party that could make that level of news: Burning a "US Flag"*. *Or get close, If it has 11 stripes and 47 stars, same effect Ideas? |
Hmmmmm... I think this is the same thing as "reverse racism" or "reverse sexism" claims. Mocking the majority/helping the minority just doesn't have the same ramifications and implications as helping the majority/mocking the minority. You can be prejudiced against white people and men, but you can't be racist against whites or sexist against men (using the definition "racism/sexism = power + prejudice").
White trash/redneck/eurotrash parties aren't in great taste (and are a bit classist), but they're not as out-and-out offensive as "ghetto"/"Mexican" parties. Anti-American parties just wouldn't pack a punch to me. |
I think I saw a party once that was like bankers and stepford wives; I can't remember the catchy name, but yeah, not offensive.

Had a "Greek/American college" themed party last November. Beer pong, Red solo cups, lettered shirts etc. Not offensive, and for the avid GreekChatter, very funny.

My statement still stands regardless of location.
