Stuff to do during 1 weekend in Tuscaloosa?
Hey everyone,
I've just been invited to present at a weekend conference in Tuscaloosa this March. Since Bama is such a Greek powerhouse, I thought this might be the best place to ask: given the short time I'll be in the area, what places would you recommend I visit in order to make the most of the weekend? Shopping, restaurants, bars? In particular, I'm a fan of bargain/resale shopping (TJs, Nordstrom Rack, Loehmann's, Neiman's Last Call, even Plato's Closet if it's in a good neighborhood with nice cast-offs) and I'm sure a lot of us presenters will want to hit the restaurants/bars (it's a regional conference and will probably attract a lot of grad students). I'm not sure if I'll be driving or flying as of yet--depends on if others from my grad program are invited to present as well. Thanks! :D |
Nearest outlets are east of B'ham. Shopping, a handful of cute stores near campus, and the area across from University Mall (can't think of the name).
Visit the Bryant Museum. There may be a stadium tour, but don't know. Cruise campus. Check out the souvenir shops near campus, such as the Alabama Book Store. Bar hangouts: the Houndstooth, the Booth, Buffalo Phil's on the Strip. Several others, and some really nice restaurants downtown. Other suggestions here: visittuscaloosa.com |
Thanks guys--and keep the tips coming! A friend of mine might be able to come up from the University of South Alabama, so in that case we'll carve out some time to hang (she wasn't in a house but knows a lot of my sisters)

There are some really quaint shops downtown. The Shirt Shop is the place to pick up your Alabama swag. Wings U has just about the best wings to be had anywhere. Try the Barbecue Eli Gold!! :D
