Love this!

"After this momentous occasion, things will either get better, continue to be just as amazing as you thought they’d be, or spiral out of control to your eventual disaffiliation. In any case, this is the real start of your college career, so make the best of it. "

Though mostly satire, some of their columns venture into real talk sometimes. I seriously hope this is still the former.

Rather than "tiers" I would change it to "your first, second, or third choice on your bid card." Since I remember distinctly being in my dorm room waiting to get picked up and thinking OH HOLY FRIGGING CRAP WHY DID I WRITE XYZ DOWN SECOND WHAT IF ASA DOESN'T GIVE ME A BID I DON'T WANT TO BE AN XYZ I WANT TO BE AN ASA. (XYZ arguably being a more popular option among the campus in general.)

Because if you put it THAT way, then yeah, it's pretty accurate.

I would agree with 33 about phrasing this as YOUR choices and not as tiers. And come on, the bottom tier girls can't even SING RIGHT?

I definitely know some girls who were crying on bid night in "top tier" sororities that were their second choice, and thrilled to be in "bottom tier" first choice sororities. The whole article just pissed me off.

My chapter had a woman who played the harp. Every year, other chapters would ask if she could come play the harp for their prefs. Um, WTF?

LOL. Wouldn't she be kind of busy at YOUR prefs?

I had the same thoughts... I totally just put Phi Sig... I was so confused. Maybe the CU PXs didnt have a good way of explaining it ever?!

33girl 01-24-2013 08:16 PM

Oh, I think that if ASA had blown me off and XYZ had taken me I would have made the best of it...I liked both my second and third choices, just didn't (and still don't) feel like I would have truly been ME in them. But if it had worked differently, I probably would have been proven wrong.

I agree with you.

Kinda like when I got my Altima. The agency guy wrote down the wrong color, so he was sorry I got my "second" choice color...which was actually my first choice!
