Is this allowed?

Yesterday I spoke to a woman who offered to write me a recommendation for rush. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif However, once she told me which GLO she was in, I realized we don't have a chapter on my future campus and I'd like to know, how many of your sororities accept "general" recs? Is this even legal within the NPC regs?

i'm not positively sure, but i don't think an NPC sorority would be able to use that sort of a rec. sure, they might read it, but it would not carry weight the way it would if an alunma recommended you. if you sent a rec like that to my chapter, i know that, as far as scoring, it would be as if you had sent nothing in.

how would that even work? would you send a copy of her rec to every sorority on campus?

you should probably tell this lady thank you, but that her sorority is not represented on your campus.

by the way, where will you be rushing? depending on the nature of greek life at your college, and what region of the country you're in, recommendations may be no big deal at all. they are actually pretty uncommon at some schools.

At a smaller school in the south. I don't think they are quite as important as they are at schools like Auburn and Alabama, but I'd rather be safe! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/cool.gif

It's not "illegal", it just might not do much. However, if you are going to school down south, I would definitely use it. You never know when there will be members on your campus who might have friends or biological sisters who are in this lady's sorority.

My sosority doesn't have a "reccomendation" but they do have forms for an alumnae to send to the chapter of the school that the girl is going to regarding her being intrested in going greek. There is one called a legacy information form and one called a recruitment information form, both bascially say "I know this girl, she is a legacy by this person/this sorority and I think she would be a great asset" or "I'm not sure she will do well in the chapter, etc" It's not for anyone but the recruitment chair and the advisor to see. It's just a way to know girls that are interested as much as we can and it doesn't interfere w/much because the rest of the chapter doesn't see it.

By all means, let her write you a recommendation! Chapters want any information they can get about you. We respect information from alumnae of any GLO. I also know women who have had random people like high school teachers write recommendations. Every chapter may not use it, but it certainly can not hurt you.
