rushing at Miami (OH)
Hi, I'm a sophomore planning to go through January formal recruitment at Miami University in Ohio and I was hoping some of you may be able to give me advice on how to put my best foot forward.
Last year I registered for recruitment but dropped after first round because I had a heavy schedule that spring and didn't have the time to dedicate to a sorority. Now I am hoping to rush again and participate in Greek life, but I am nervous because I know it's a little tougher as a sophomore. I'm not a legacy and I don't know everyone in every sorority but I do have several friends who are Greeks and I'm hoping I still have a chance at getting a bid to a sorority that is right for me! Also--if any of you went to Miami please let me know so I can PM you! |
Sorority Recruitment Thread
Hi Rushing:
For a whole lot of helpful information regarding how to put your best foot forward, read the 'Sorority Recruitment' section. http://www.greekchat.com/gcforums/fo...play.php?f=217 Be sure as well to familiarize yourself with all of the university guidelines and suggestions for recruitment. |
Good Luck, the schedule is different this year because the parties will not be held in the suites this year.

If you haven't done so already, get recs, and bust your butt to do well on your finals to help boost your GPA.
|
Thanks for all your tips! I am getting nervous but I am trying to remember to be myself once rush begins :)

OP, good luck. Don't listen to gossip. Be open to all the chapters. There are beautiful, smart, accomplished women in them all, and all of the national orgs offer leadership opportunities, philanthropic work, support and sisterhood. You may get cut from some chapters, but sophs do receive bids at Miami. Have fun! |

I'm starting to get excited especially since grades came out and I did really well on my finals! I am now stressing over finding outfits and all that crazy stuff. I'm trying to keep an open mind and not get attached to just the chapters my friends are in :). I can't wait to see what happens! |
Well thanks to everyone who helped me out as I was preparing for recruitment. We just received our 2nd round schedules today and all the houses I liked dropped me, so I decided to withdraw from recruitment. Unfortunately I will not get to be a greek girl, but I hope everyone else has a better experience with rush than I did.

I got cut from all chapters.

I was invited to a lot of chapters I liked first round, but when we received schedules for 2nd round I had no invites. I guess instead of withdraw I was just dropped from recruitment. Sorry about the confusion.
I'm hoping I can find a new community in some other way this spring, maybe a professional or service fraternity. I appreciate the tips everyone had to offer here, and maybe I can still be a part of something great. |
Rushing, I'm sorry you've had this experience! I think your positive attitude will take you far, though, so I see good things in your future. Find other ways to get involved on campus! Remember that even at schools with a huge Greek presence, there are still always more students that are "non-Greek". Good luck to you!

I'm sorry to hear that. I know you find some wonderful organizations to join. Echoing the poster above...even at a school like Miami, there are more independents than there are greeks and many groups to explore. Enjoy your time on that pretty campus!

I'm sorry to hear that. Good luck with your future endeavors.
