Rushing in the Spring

Hello,
I just have a quick question. I tried searching for it, but I couldnt seem to find what I was looking for. I just transferred to a major university, and I've decided I would like to join a fraternity. I'm technically a semester behind in school because some of my classes didnt transfer, so even though the spring semester is starting I'm only just becoming a junior. Will this pose problematic for joining?

Also, I'll be living off campus in the spring while pledging. Will that cause any problems? I would like to move into the house in the fall though.

Thank you for any info.

Depends on the campus and chapter, for both questions.

It does depend on your campus and the chapters, as said above. I know of schools where pledging a fraternity as a junior is not a problem, and others where your options are more limited. Just approach it with an open mind and meet as many guys in as many chapters as you can. Let them know you're a new transfer and a first semester junior. As a first semester junior, the assumption is that they will get at least two years of undergrad membership from you.

The off-campus question is also a "depends on your school" answer, but I'm not aware of that being a problem as far as fraternity policies go. I have two friends whose sons pledged this fall at Auburn -- both sophomores, age 20, and living off campus. Another friend's son also pledged his fraternity while living off campus at his school. I even know of guys who were local to their schools and were still living at home while pledging. The issue in all cases was that it was more of an inconvenience for the guys pledging. Pledging can be time-consuming and getting to events, meetings, etc is easier and quicker for guys living on campus. Best wishes to you!

Thank you for the info. I'm definitely going to give it a shot, and see how it goes!
