Arizona State Missing SAE New Member
 

Here in Tempe, this story is definitely taking on a lot of rumors and speculation and from the articles I found, it looks like a lot of that is being translated into the news. I do want to applaud the members of the Greek community here for raising money for the family and for getting out and active to find Jack. Hopefully he is found soon and is okay.

What a horrible story. I hope it turns out for the better.

However, none of these articles puts any blame on the club. They kicked a 19 year old (why did they let him drink anyway?) drunk kid, without his cell or credit card, out of their establishment. Did they call him a cab? Make a responsible person in the rest of his group take care of him? Failure on whoever organized the party and the club.

Guess it's just easier to blame hazing.

I thought Cadillac Ranch was more like an Applebee's-type place, rather than someplace you would have a fraternity event.

33girl, It is more of a casual dining establishment but it does have a bar and mechanical bull so it does get some traffic. Somewhat surprising location for a fraternity event though.


They have been searching on and off for the past week. After the police released the original area, a large group got together today to search near Tempe Town Lake and surrounding Tempe Marketplace. It's terrifying to me that no one remembers seeing him leave Cadillac Ranch. I know from the first day of my new member period, I remember it being drilled into my head that you never let a sister go anywhere alone during an event, particularly if drinking has occurred. We definitely never left anywhere without accounting for the whole group.

I hope and pray they find him soon but I fear that as time goes on the case will just get colder.

It looks as if they have found Jack. Such a sad end to this story. Although I did not know him, I do know that he has touched so many in this community. The Greek community ASU came together in this tragedy.

My prayers will be with his family and friends during this difficult time. This comment on the Facebook page for him particularly made me cry:

If it is jack they found then those 20 beautiful Angels that were killed Friday all have an amazing big brother to watch over them in heaven. God be with the Culolias family and all the families of the victims that were killed on Friday.

Weren't there 26 people killed on Friday? I'm sure some of the adults killed have families who thought that they were "angelic" as well.

Sorry, I know this isn't the jist of the thread and that you're just quoting, but this particular bent with the news coverage/memes/etc is really pissing me off to no end.

I think the person who wrote it was focused on the 20 because of the big brother aspect. But I have noticed that the adults have been forgotten quite a bit in a lot of the coverage.

Although the medical examiner hasn't made the official determination that it is Jack. The searchers that found him did share that he was wearing the same clothes Jack was last seen wearing. I also wanted to share this message from the Facebook group for Jack from the SAE national president:

On behalf of the entire Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity, I extend our sympathies to Jack's family, SAE family and friends. It's been a rough couple of weeks for everyone involved and I wish that you all can find peace in some way. I wish I had the words to articulate my personal feelings as I have followed your thoughts and expressions of grief since November 30. But I cannot begin to image how you all feel. This is so sad. I hoped things would turn out differently. His poor family. I wish I could give them a hug.

This is the second time since I've been here that someone has been found this way after walking home intoxicated. I'm sure the police will look in to it but for now it seems they are saying it was a drunken accident. Who knows? It's still scary to me and makes me even more afraid to see a friend go anywhere, especially alone.

I hope this reminds everyone that there is safety in numbers and that you should never let a drunk friend walk off alone. I hope this is the last time this happens but I'm sure it won't be. :(

Very sad for his family. And while getting drunk is never good, kicking a drunk kid out of an event and not getting him home safely is not very brotherly.

This. When going out in groups, friends/brothers/whatever should always be looking out for one another.

This times a million! This situation has made me so thankful for my sisters and my friends that always make sure we leave anywhere with the group we came with. It also has made me thankful for our risk management policies that made sure anyone that left an event due to unruly behavior or intoxication was escorted to their home by a sober member.

New complaint filed in case of ASU student Jack Culolias TEMPE, Ariz. -- A year and a half after Arizona State University freshman Jack Culolias died after leaving a fraternity event, his mother is targeting Sigma Alpha Epsilon and individual fraternity members in a complaint just filed in Maricopa County Superior Court.

The complaint filed by Grace Culolias alleges wrongful death, negligence and gross negligence, and it demands a jury trial.

Mom of ASU student who drowned files suit against fraternity: PHOENIX (CBS5) - Her son drowned in Tempe Town Lake after a night of partying with his fraternity brothers at Cadillac Ranch.
