Excerpts from ^^:

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (AP) — West Virginia University has one less fraternity: Phi Gamma Delta has been permanently suspended from campus after an alleged hazing that involved late-night drinking at the chapter house.

The hazing occurred in October, while the fraternity was already on temporary suspension by both WVU and its national organization, Director of Student Organization Services Ron Justice said Tuesday.

. . . [the] investigation was completed before the Thanksgiving break, and chapter members were informed of the suspension Monday night . . . ."

Alert GCers will not be overly surprised that the last set of activities leading to an investigation took place "while the fraternity was already on temporary suspension by both WVU and its national organization." Hasn't that pattern been seen way too often already?

Oh, so very sorry to read this..My husband was a FIJI at WVU in the late '70s. It was a strong and wonderful chapter he says. In fact they had the highest gpa of all of the fraternities on campus! Sure, they partied and had a good time, but not to the out of control extent that so many fraternities go to these days. He actually was at WVU just a few weeks ago for the TCU football game with a fraternity brother who came in from Illinois (we live in California). They drove past the FIJI house and were appalled by how awful the house looked. Run down and trash all over the front yard. It certainly was not how he remembered it and he said that they (his brothers) would NEVER have let the house get so run down and filthy. It really made him sad that young men of FIJI behaved that way.

Maybe we're just getting old!

Anyway, farewell to WVU FIJI!!! You were once a GREAT chapter!!!!
