Getting Recs ?

Thanks

FSUZeta 11-17-2012 03:36 PM

The alumna will get her own rec. form. It is not your job to do so. You provide an up to date resume, a good, flattering, recent photo, and if you can, an envelope with the proper postage affixed, addressed to the chapter of her sorority at your school. She may, however, prefer to send it electronically-that will be her call. And be sure to not only thank her in person, but follow up with a written thank you.

I recommend reading this entire thread(linked below). You will find lots of helpful information, including tips on getting recommendations.
Then if you still have questions, ask away. Good Luck!!

If you're going to State, you'd better get at least 1 rec for every chapter. For real.

Do a search on this site. There are a ton of threads here that explain how to find recs, etc.

Pardon the screaming but the operative word is NETWORK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And this is hair splitting, but while I applaud your attempt at the correct use of alumnae instead of alumni, the singular is alumna. It will make you look smarter in your communication with alumnae if you use the correct forms of the word.

I know it is not mandatory to provide recs for each chapter for recruitment, but it is recommended by most.

It's also not mandatory to take a shower or wash your hair before attending recruitment events, but most recommend you do those things too.

Just letting you know that while the "party line" is not permitted to say you must have recs as doing so would interfere with individual groups' membership selection policies, you can really screw yourself royally if you don't.

JCR1007,

It would probably be a good idea to remove personally identifying information (name, school, etc) from your initial post (there is an edit feature on each post). That way, if you want to ask questions as the time draws near, you will not be recognized by other PNMs, actives, and alums who may be involved with recruitment at your school.

The recruitment information on your school's panhellenic site may indicate that sororities are responsible for obtaining recs on PNMs, and that recs are not mandatory, just strongly recommended (or something similar). However, it would be much to your advantage to secure these yourself (which you appear to know, or you wouldn't be asking) -- and it would be best if these arrive by the end of June/beginning of July.

Good on you for thinking to gather contacts this far in advance -- hopefully you can network and locate some contacts in your hometown during the semester break.

That's okay. If you didn't see it, chances are others didn't either.
