Newsweek to change to digital only

Newsweek magazine has announced that after 80 years of publishing, it will switch to digital only beginning in 2013. The last published format will occur Dec. 31.

I'm not really surprised. I've been thinking of cancelling my Men's Health subscription because I can read it all on-line anyway. And, by cancelling, it will help control my packrat tendencies.

Considering Newsweek is kind of a joke now (more like TMZ than Time) and people are embarrassed to have it in their home anyway...

That being said, I hate reading magazines (or books or anything else that is supposed to be in a printed forum) online. It's not the same.

Newspapers and magazines rushed to throw their content online. They GAVE their content away for FREE.
And now they wonder why people are cancelling subscriptions left and right and their readership is shrinking.

Me, too. To quote DH: "Taking a laptop into the bathroom just isn't the same as taking a magazine."

Oh, Men's Health doesn't give much of anything away free. People constantly complain about their app because the content isn't free to people who already have the print subscription. You basically have to pay twice if you want the print copy and want to be able to use the app.

Otherwise, some articles are online for free, but not everything.

I don't use the app. I just read different articles on-line.
