Question for Alpha Delta Pis (and friends)
 

Just out of curiosity, what do you consider the exact shade of azure blue?

I find myself getting completely and totally bent out of shape when I see a shade that I consider anything but azure blue called azure blue!

Or maybe we can at least separate this into light blue, dark blue, light aquamarine, or whatever. Go for it!

honey - check out the Pantone website. I'm overwhelmed by the colors. And I went to wikipedia to look as well.

I love it, lyrica9! I was shocked recently when I saw a shade of navy called "azure blue". Bless their hearts, NO!

I always thought it was more like my name in my signature, maybe a bit lighter.

I have the same problem! I can never tell what azure blue is. To me, it's more like Honeychile's signature (ADPi til I die) and Lyrica9's post makes me think of Robins Egg blue (aka: Tiffany Blue).

My first thought was Tiffany blue as well. If so, that definitely makes finding it easier. If you say "Tiffany blue" people know what you are talking about.

Although on other websites, I've seen it darker than that (like a lighter cerulean blue).

To me, the Tiffany blue has a too much green in it to be considered azure, which I think of as a "pure" blue. I think the traditional definition of azure is the color of the sky, so I tend to think of something more like this:

That said, the color wheel at The Wiki shows a deeper shade for azure:

The color shown as azure there is closer to what's at the ADPi website than the lighter blue I think of.

I'm curious whether ADPi has specified the shade of "azure" it uses. It seems these days that most colleges and many GLOs, as part of their overall branding, have specified by Pantone standards, CMYK values and/or hexcode the precise shades of their colors. I know we have with red and gold. (Shades of black aren't much of an issue.)

I'll swerve back to my own lane now.

I can't help but wonder if computers were available in 1851, would the Founders have stated a more definitive color?

I wonder if there are any historical artifacts (ribbons, for example) from ADPi's early days that would give an indication of what shade of blue the founders or early members preferred.

I did poke around the ADPi website a little to see if I could find any historical pictures along those lines; I didn't find any, but I did see this graphic on the "symbols" page to go with the paragraph about colors:

I would take those. Those or cyan - but that's more of a personal choice, not an ADPi choice.

What can I say? I was raised in a bedroom with sky blue walls, and a sea blue carpet, with dozens of keys on the one wall. I thought that was normal!

Alpha Phi Omega has specified it in Pantone and wierdly enough includes that in the pledge manual as part of the section of fraternity symbols...

I know I'm late to the party, but I'm a graphic designer and needed to give a printer specs for an ADPi invitation. I got the Pantone number from our official printer at exec office. Azure blue is Pantone 305. Hope that helps! ;)
