Well, I guess if you're willing to put a bolt in your ear, this is the next logical step. I prefer elf ears myself.

At least it's not permanent.

Is it even safe/healthy to randomly inject your body with saline?

badgeguy 09-28-2012 08:17 AM

So, is this how the Klingons, or Romulans started out? This new "trend" could be the birth of a new Star Trek race!

Gusteau 09-28-2012 08:25 AM

Those pictures made me feel...icky. The only way a bagel is getting in my head is through my mouth thankyouverymuch.

As long as they are doing it sterilely, it's not harmful. We do the same thing in medicine on patients before skin graft harvesting to even out bumps so the graft doesn't have any holes in it. You can also do it if you can't find a vein and you want to inject fluids into a patient...not common, but it's a method. The body's lymphatic system will resorb it without a problem. You just have to be careful not to cause an infection.

I'm assuming that it's not permanent. What happens to the bagel-shaped flap of skin when the saline subsides?

preciousjeni 09-28-2012 10:27 AM

I understand body modification with cultural/sub-cultural ties. But, this? What's the reasoning?

There is no actual flap of skin. The skin stretchees out to accomodate the saline, then goes back to the normal size after the saline is absorbed by the body. After a while, though, that skin is going to lose its "snap" and could remain loose. I just don't get this idea at all.

The article said it lasted 16 hours. I wonder what kind of money people are paying to be this ridic.
