U of Tennessee Pi Kappa Alpha Chapter Suspended: Alcohol Enemas Alleged

U of Tennessee and Pike HQ have suspended the Pike chapter pending the outcome of investigations. Allegedly, Pike members were giving each other "alcohol enemas,' which is NOT a good idea at all, to put it mildly. See

http://www.wrcbtv.com/story/19627288...t-hospitalized

Excerpt:

.” . . [polce] investigators went to campus Saturday morning and found several other people, including three men, passed out at the PIKE house.
After conducting several interviews, investigators determined the fraternity members had used rubber tubing to give each other alcohol enemas. . . . “

WTF?

BlueOwl 09-24-2012 08:15 PM

Don't even know how to respond to this.....

AGDee 09-24-2012 08:25 PM

I have heard of this, sadly. They do it to get drunk faster because you don't have to wait for it to travel through the stomach, etc. to get absorbed. Crazy.

IndianaSigKap 09-24-2012 08:34 PM

Why, just why...smh. Sounds like a time when "Just say no" would have been appropriate.

arrowlady 09-24-2012 09:49 PM

Just plain crazy and hope they get their charter pulled!

Believe it or not, this was going on over in Iraq during Operations Iraqi Freedom, as the service members were prohibited from consuming alcohol. Some real bright-bulbs got the idea (probably from medics) to do alcohol enemas with surgical alcohol (i.e., ever-clear). When someone has not consumed alcohol for long period of time, the absorbtion by the intestinal lining hits them super hard, usually resulting in that the young man (...I never heard of any female Soldiers, Marines, or Airman doing this stunt) would be immediately totally inebriated and would usually lose bowel control shortly afterwards, usually in his pants.

Besides the disgusting nature of this practice, there is also a potential for the spread of blood-born pathogens, hepatitus, and even getting a perforated intestine.

This is so gross and bizarre, I can't even wrap my head around it.

Occasionally when talking to my daughter about boys the only response or explanation her dad or I can come up with is "boys are stupid". Proof positive.

Saw this on my local news. YIKES.

We had a patient in residency die from this. His wife went to jail for giving him brandy enemas. He had cirrhosis and couldn't drink because of bleeding varices in his esophagus so she gave him alcohol the other way and killed him by alcohol poisoning.

OK that really stupid and nasty at the same time. What a bunch of tools.

33girl 09-25-2012 09:47 AM

I lost it at "giving each other enemas" regardless of what is in them.
