Rho Chi

I want to be a Rho Chi! Me and one of my sisters are about to fill out applications, and all of our other sisters are really shooting it down! They say it's really hard, and a lot of work, and not at all worth it. Not only that, but I didn't go through formal rush as a pledge(although I have been on the sister side of it. Does anyone know if I can do it without having rushing through formal rush? Does anyone have feedback about either being or trying to be a Rho Chi? Let me know!!

I was a Rho Chi. All NPC chapters should do their best to make sure that they have a Rho Chi representing them during formal recruitment. I also went through formal recruitment. But this makes no difference. You are no more or no less a sister depending on when you went thru recruitment...I say go for it. It was a lot of fun and personally, why are your sisters acting like you are about to commit a crime because you want to proudly represent them? Being a Rho Chi is a high profile job and as long as you know that you and your organization will be held accountable for your behavior, go for it! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif

Hi Kellie! I think it's great that you want to be a Rho Chi, and you should let your sisters know that they should WANT the chapter to be represented in that aspect of Panhellenic and rush!

I had sorority sisters that pledged during COB that then were selected as Rho Chis, so I don't believe that there is an NPC policy about that. As long as you have gone through rush from inside, you should be kosher!

At my school, and most i'm sure, you have to be active for a full year before you can be considered for a Rho Chi position - so i definitly plan on applying for the 2002 fall recruitment period! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif! This year, we had 28 Rho Chi's - each soroity (there are 12) must be represented, adn the remaining positions are given to the best women for the job!

I was a Rho Chi last semester (fall semester), and it was a pretty good experience...I got to see how other fraternities handled rush, and see the things they were offering rushees that we weren't, or vice versa. It was uncomfortable being the only guy there who wasn't a rushee or rushing guys, but it was still not a bad experience overall.

It's great to be a Rho Chi. I was one (and also pledged through COB), and it is a lot of hard work but I also found it rewarding. Have you stopped to think that maybe your sisters don't want you to be a Rho Chi because they think you'd be a better asset to the Chapter during recruitment at your events? As an advisor, I always have mental conflicts when some of my stronger recruiters want to be Rho Chi's. I hate losing them during the events because they are so good at conversation and present themselves very well during the events.

The very qualities that the chapter doesn't want to lose during your events may be the very qualities that will make you a great Rho Chi.

Take it as a compliment that they want you to represent the chapter as a chapter member to the potential members and not as a Rho Chi.

If you really do want to be a Rho Chi, keep my points in mind and then come up with an argument as to why you could be just as much of an asset to the chapter as a Rho Chi... your list could include things like how well you would represent your chapter (once they are allowed to know which chapter you are in) as well as other points.

Good luck! I know that you will do a great job either way.

In response to Hooties entry, Yes, I will be a Rho Chi for the upcoming fall rush. Im very excited. At out school, only those who possess awesome leadership skills and are valued by thier chapter are allowed to become rho chis...i cant wait!

My chapter has 6 wonderful sisters representing us as Rho Chis this fall. Although i am very proud that they are representing us well, i am kinda sad about disaffiliation. Maybe that is why your sisters dont want you to do it, they cant stand the fact that they wouldnt be able to speak to u at school. For us, there are certain rules a Rho Chi must follow: she CANT wear any letters or have any sorority nalia on them. Also they cant speak to any sister in school, if they are going to hang out with sisters the sisters cant be wearing any letters and neither can the Rho Chi. I think this is so that the rushees can feel comfortable tlaking about any of their concerns or ideas about the sororities without offending anyone.. its really hard to not talk to a sister. My chapter is VERY close and having 6 sisters is going to be a hard task http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif
Talk to ur chapter and find out why they have such strong concerns against you being a Rho Chi. Overall i have heard it is a very rewarding expierence. Good Luck to u http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif

I know I thought about being a Rho Chi, but our president at the time made a decision that since we were one of the smaller groups we should all stick around for rush to fill the room and not have to disaffiliate. I don't think it really helped http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/rolleyes.gif but that might be one of the reasons your sisters don't want you to do it.

Since then though, I think our Panhellenic has passed a resolution that each sorority has to have x number of sisters serve as Rho Chi's, which I think is a good idea.

I am also going to be a Rho Chi for fall 2001. I'm really looking forward to it and I think I will appriciate my sisters more when I come back to them.
