ITT we post songs that remind us of a certain person, place, situation, etc.
Is there a song that when you hear it, it immediately reminds you of a certain person, place, or situation?
Okay, I'll start. There are quite a few songs, but only one will always stand out from the rest. My Junior year in undergrad, two friends of mine and I decided to go to the Minnesota State Fair. Well, while we were there along with the other fun things to do, there was the bungee cord tower that the State Fair usually doesn't offer. Well, my two friends did it and they jumped. I thought they were nuts. They said it was fun, and it looked fun, so they talked me into doing it. I'm thinking it can't be so bad. The line was kind of long, and there were a lot of people gathering around watching crazy people jump, from like 350 ft or something like that, as I can remember. Well, it was my turn. As I was going up in the elevator with one of the operators, I looked down, and I got scared. When I finally reached the top, they had me sign a release form saying that if something happens, they're not responsible. So, I started asking questions, because I was scared. They answered all of my questions, so I read it and signed it, but still with hesitation. Then, they told me to take off my shoes, and they tied this thick "tie thing" around my ankles. When I looked over the edge, I looked down. There wasn't a cushion or anything, just solid concrete. I mean, I could hear people yelling "Jump!", and that's when I freaked. I told the two operator guys that I didn't feel comfortable, and that I was afraid. I told them I want to go back down. As I was talking to them, and telling them why I felt uncomfortable, I heard some moron down below yell "Push her!" Long story short, they untied the thing around my ankles, and as we went back down the elevator, people were booing at me. Well, anyway, they had these really big speakers with music playing, and I remember Rock n' Me by the Steve Miller Band was playing as I was going up, inside the elevator. I heard that song tonight which is what made me start this thread. That song always reminds me of that night. I don't know what I was thinking. I mean, I was only 20. Young and dumb, I guess. :o |
This brings me back to a magical place.
and then this one reminds me of lifting weights at UCSB. The trainer made us do SLOW reps. I can still hear him counting and my muscles were screaming. |
These songs remind me of the year that I lived in Toronto (Sept 2000-Sept 2001):
Nelly - That song that goes, "hey, must be the money" U2 - Beautiful Day (when I dated Brad, who turned out to be a scoundrel) Daft Punk - One More Time (going out to the clubs in Toronto) |
For some reason, my mind strongly connects songs with what was going on in my life at the time they were popular.
My kids get a kick out of me being able to place a date on just about any song from between 1980 - 2000 by matching it up with what I was doing when it came out.
