Camp Panhellenic, Wisconsin, 1920s - history post
A history post about Camp Panhellenic in Door County, Wisconsin.
Although the camp was open to members of National Panhellenic Conference (NPC) organizations, it was not affiliated with NPC and was privately run. A small ad in the back of a 1922 edition of Good Housekeeping gave all the particulars, "Camp Panhellenic for college women, Washington Island, Wisconsin, Director, Gladys R. Dixon, Blackwood Hotel, Chicago." Read more about Camp Panhellenic at: http://wp.me/p20I1i-mg |
The days before women students had summer internships or summer school! I wonder if the campground is still discernable....Road trip? Door County is beautiful in autumn!

Camp Panhellenic
I don't think it is. But wouldn't it be fun to look? We might just get ourselves locked up for trespassing. :)

I'm trying and failing to picture AGDAlum getting locked up!:D

Sorry ladies...
The campground this used to be held at has been bought and a grand home built . It does use many parts of the original camp. http://digital.modernluxury.com/publ...?i=80429&p=110
It would be fun to resurrect something like this though. There are other campgrounds at Door County. |

I do know the owner, Carnation. He's is an architect who's designed dozens of libraries. He told me
he would be happy to show us "Camp Pan." It's just a couple of hours from me but a day-and-half for Fran. |
Convention 2015 is in Chicago. Carnation and I need to come to convention and add a couple of days on to it and then we can take a FIELD TRIP!!
