Dual Membership Question
.
|
I am a member of both Sigma Sigma Sigma (social GLO) and Gamma Sigma Sigma (service GLO). When I joined Tri Sigma, I was the president of the founding chapter GSS. For time commitment, you learn to prioritize and manage your responsibilities as time goes on. For the positives, they are both personally rewarding which offer very different experiences for their members. In my chapters, comparing the two would be like comparing apples and oranges. For the negatives, some of the members of GSS thought I was "abandoning" that chapter for Tri Sigma (it wasn't true) and I would often run into sisters using that excuse for various things.

I've known many OPhiA sisters who were also members of NPC or NPHC sororities. Like SLAM<3Always said, the two are very different and provide different experiences. But be prepared that your sisters in each will watch closely to see if you favor one over the other. It's like a mother with two children each of whom feels like the other is her favorite. It can be very stressful! But some women handle it beautifully. We have one alumna sister who serves in a national role in OPhiA and is equally active in her local alumnae organizations of Alpha Xi Delta and SAI.
