What's with the fist on the chin pose?!
Hi fellow Phi Mus! I'm a recent alumna (graduated last year) and I'm still very involved with Phi Mu, so I was surprised to see a new Phi Mu "sign" this Bid Day that I had never seen before! I noticed at several Southern schools (particularly in MS) Phi Mus were posing with their fist under their chin (kind of like "the thinker").
I have NEVER seen this before and I'm kind of confused as to how it relates to Phi Mu. At first I thought it was just silly posing, but I saw multiple Phi Mus do it at different schools, and they called it a "sign" for Phi Mu. Help? Some Googling led me to believe it might be called the "Phi Mu swerve"... |
I noticed this last year..I work with the Phi Mus at Southern Miss....they said that they had seen the girls at Mississippi State posing this way too.
I don't think it looks very attractive and said so...but I am just an old fuddy duddy... |
I have a friend from MS State, who, upon referring to Phi Mu, did the chin pose! I'm from another state and it hasn't made it here yet!

I graduated from MS State several years ago. When I was about a Sophomore (2007) some Phi Mu's started the fist/chin pose just as a cutesy way to take pictures. I had never seen other girls do it before, so I can only assume that the trend started with them and continued with pledge classes after them.
