UCF 2012
Today is UCF Bid Day! I was surprised that there haven't been any UCF recruitment stories this year, but I wanted to report in that I went to the ADPi house the other night to help with "Recruitment Dinner" where the alumnae provide dinner to the collegians. It was really wonderful to step back into my chapter house (accompanied by my sorority house roommate and her adorable toddler who is a double legacy!).
I brought a ton of old sorority tshirts which now qualify as vintage. I'm no longer wearing them, and they were so excited! Some of them immediately changed into the shirts they claimed, and it made me so happy to see those tshirts getting some new love! The chapter members were so polite and welcoming. My roomie and I even got to see our old room! We also found our old composites and took pictures with her little girl in front of the lion statue in front of our house. Her daughter had so much fun she didn't want to leave I got a great photo of her running up to the house, and I am holding onto it... just in case 15 years from now she's running home to mommy and grandma's house ;) Happy Bid Day, UCF, and Go Knights! UCF is now the second largest campus by enrollment in the nation and is home to 11 NPC sororities. I'm so thankful to have had the opportunity to go Greek. |

It's so strange because I feel like we used to get TONS of UCF PNMs coming here.
|
We did.
A friend posted that ZTA pledged 45, which was quota. |
ADPi also pledged 45.
|
That's great!
|
Delta Zeta (who colonized at UCF last fall) took 56!
|
Kappa also pledged 45. :)

I think it is worth noting this 45-new member quota is the lowest quota UCF has seen since the late 80s/early 90s. One reason for the lower number has to do with the fact that there are now 11 chapters on campus, and a second factor is that that fewer women went through recruitment this year. Chapter total is set around 170, I believe, and these chapters are still quite large.

People need to try to see smaller quotas and totals as a good thing on some of these campuses. I realize it's personal experience, but I just think a pledge class of no more than 50 is ideal. Especially since isn't this a campus where some of the chapters have houses and some don't? I hate to think of chapter meetings in a lecture hall. So impersonal! So it looks like UCF is where I think they should be, for all that's worth. HA!

I misspoke. I think smaller chapters are a very good thing, and I'd like to see UCF continue to add sororities and lower chapter total so that sororities with houses no longer have to worry about violating the fire code just to hold a chapter meeting in their chapter house! I was merely pointing out that's taken about 20 years to get to this point for quota to go under 50.

I wasn't accusing. Just saying this is a good thing. Based on your knowledge (which if it's ANY it's better than me) what do you think quota should be at UCF? I mean, perfect world, what do you think?

I would like to see chapters of around 100 members, but that's just me. Not all of the sororities have houses, but of those that do, the average sleeps about 30 members; whereas the average chapter has close to 200 members. Bylaws vary per sorority about live-in requirements and who has priority.
