T-shirts during rush

We seem to get questions every year about how to dress for rush when you have to wear a t-shirt for one or more days. I was looking at the Auburn pictures for Days 1 and 2 and thought what the Rho Gammas (or whatever they're called there) are a perfect example of how to be cute in a uniform t-shirt. I might go a little fancier with some of the footwear (the silver ones in the middle are darling, however), but other than that, you get their style, they are weather appropriate and they're not doing anything silly to personalize their shirts. Oh, and nobody's wearing shorty shorts.

What is with the high waisted shorts? (the orange shorts) Are those in? I saw them on several girls in the photos Auburn Panhel posted and they just look weird to me. Maybe I'm old.

I think that is a skirt, and one I do not think is terribly appealing. I like the look of the shorts worn with the belt. She looks neat and put together but not over the top.

Saves money if you can hike 'em up and not wear a bra?

Yes, higher waisted skirts are hot right now, though not typically paired with tees. I think that's why it looks weird.

Can I ask a question? I noticed several of the girls have on hiking/hippie sandals. I'm not going to college until next year and those shoes aren't popular at my high school. Is this a college trend?

gee_ess 08-09-2012 10:20 PM

Popular in the south.

I agree - this is the only girl that looks good. If you're supposed to wear a t-shirt, wear a t-shirt with things that are supposed to be worn with t-shirts. Skirts don't seem like a wise choice in this case.

And what's up with the Teva-like sandals? Are these back in style?

DoctorD 08-09-2012 10:46 PM

as far as the shoes - Chacos - very big with the college students I work with, and I work with students in several southern states.

as far as the skirts/shorts - I was looking at some of my facebook friends' pictures who are in various sororities at Auburn, and some of the sorority women are wearing matching skirts or aprons today with their t-shirts for Round 2... so I'm thinking that this style is the current thing.

I imagine they'll look back on this much like I look back on my floral/large shoulder pad dresses from the late 80s/early 90s.

These are Chacos and very popular. They are actually very comfortable. I have worn my daughter's and really like them.

Old_Row 08-09-2012 11:35 PM

Yes they are chacos and everyone wears them.

I think a couple of them look good but not the ones wearing the skirts. That is a little too much but they are at Auburn so they might not be so smart. Haha just kidding. Sort of.

Ugh, barf. Chacos, a skirt, and a baggy t-shirt? I would have expected better from the SEC! I would NEVER be caught dead wearing an outfit that hideous. The only ones I think are remotely cute is the girl wearing silver sandals and those wearing flip flops. Chacos are great for hiking and with norts... but they should be left at home when trying to look cute!

DoctorD 08-10-2012 12:26 AM

Seeing how this picture is of recruitment counselors - As much as these women are on their feet, and as hot as it is right now, I don't begrudge them the Chacos. Or trying to be comfortable.

pam713 08-10-2012 12:45 AM

I used to think Chacos were the ugliest shoes out there until I tried them on. Now I own three pair!

That skirt with the t-shirt is definitely a look right now. I've noticed sometimes that the elastic waistband rides up on girls perhaps not giving them the exact look that they were going for. I'll give them a pass on their less-than-stellar outfits. It's super hot and it poured rain in Auburn today!

mellymoo 08-10-2012 12:52 AM

I guess I'll be buying some Chacos next year!
