Have I ruined my chances...?

First, I would like to say Greetings to ladies of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.! Here is my dilemma: I decided to join a community service organization to support my interest in community service and to become more active on campus. (The chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. is in inactive at my school.) However, their MIP was VERY unorganized, apparently they were trying to run the pledge process differently than ever before. And when it did not work out, my entire line was dropped. Mind you this was BEFORE the deadline for our requirements was to be met. I was just wondering if you ladies think this will effect my chances of becoming a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. should they find out ? Will it be looked down upon that I did not finish MIP?

From what I have heard some of the ladies of the service org. I was trying to join have expressed interest in becoming members of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.

Your responses are greatly appreciated!

*Sorry for the long entry*

So you presume.

Really? How would you know this? I thought you were a "humble aspirant" ...

LOL I peeped this same thing yesterday, but I didn't say shit because it wasn't my organization. But I'm over here CTFU at your response.

@ LikeASista How would I know what? That the chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. at my school is inactive? Or that the service organization I was trying to join was running their MIP differently than before?

I hope the AKAs don't mind. I reorganized the original post for clarity's sake.

The "affect" versus "effect" thing is important. ;)

Thank you DrPhil!! This is exactly how I should have written the original post. :D

And thank you for the side note I have to remember to be more mindful of that.

Neither of those, but rather this, instead:

How would you know how "VERY unorganized" my sorority is at all unless you have gone through the process once before? What on earth would you have to compare it to?

See, ... even our frats know to stay in their lane, so why can't others do the same?

We're so very appreciative, Doc! It makes all the difference in the world. :D

I thought she was referring to the service sorority or fraternity she pledged.

DrPhil 08-08-2012 08:20 PM

She is. :)

Oh, okay ... maybe so. I guess when I read "MIP", I assumed she must've been referring to MY organization, because I didn't think any "service sorority" would use such a term. But I guess it's possible ... ;)

Yes they do. They refer to each other as neophyte and prophyte, stroll, have line jackets etc.

I put the part about the chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. at my school being inactive in parentheses to be looked as a a side note. As if to say, since they were not active on campus I looked to join a service org. which to me was the next best thing.

And again thank you DrPhil! :D
