Dropped during Informal Recruitment

I dropped my bid I received from informal recruitment last spring. I was wondering if I needed to wait another year before I can try to rush again or if I can rush this coming fall.
Thanks!

Did you accept your bid or did you decline it?

Did you not accept the bid or did you accept the bid and drop during the new member period?

If A, then no you do not have to wait.

what do you mean that you dropped your bid? Did you sign it? If you signed it, you are bound to that bid for a year. If you did not sign a bid, you shouldn't be bound to it.

I accepted the bid and then dropped within a couple of weeks.

so if i'm bound to the bid then can i try to rush with the same sorority again? not to say that they'll necessarily take me back, but am i able to at least try? i didn't drop because i didn't like the sorority, it was just bad timing.

I think it depends on the campus whether the bid is valid for a calendar year (12 months, not necessarily January to January) or a school year. If it's for a calendar year, then your bid is still valid, and you should be able to go back to the house that bidded you and re-start the new member program.

yes.

Since we have no idea what your school is, you could go to the director of recruitment of the sorority you received your bid from and see if they will honor it at this point. They may, they may not. They are ones that hold the key to that lock, not anyone here.

okay, thank you all so much! :)

I would suggest you talk to the President, New Member educator or whatever title a person has that is in one of those positions. It is impossible for us to say whether or not you might be able to rejoin because we do not know the status of the sorority or the circumstances for why you depledged. The chapter may have already filled the spot you had taken and is now up to total. A chapter may not be willing to take someone who already dropped them once because you will be seen as risky.

I'm curious to know what you mean by bad timing.

angelaseal 07-30-2012 06:56 PM

well i guess you could just say a lot of personal/family issues. i got really overwhelmed and was worried that between dealing with that and the sorority that i'd lose sight of my grades and what not. it was a hastily made decision on my part, but at the time it seemed like the right one. i've talked to several of the girls about it, and they were understanding. nevertheless, i completely understand why it would be considered risky.

Things happen. If it is important to you, you have to put yourself out there and ask. The worst thing that could happen is they say no, which puts you right back where you are now, so you have nothing to loose and a tremendous amount to gain.

Basically, when you accept a bid to a group, you are bound to that group until the next formal recruitment period at a minimum--I am unsure as to whether this rule specifies the next academic year or the next "calendar" year.

You can be re-accepted to the same group, even if they've since reached total. The question will be whether or not they wish to reissue a bid to you.

It's calendar year. A bid is a bid, whether it is accepted in formal or informal or COB. So, she's bound until next spring.

Angelaseal - you would not want to go through rush again (i.e. formal rush in fall 2012) as presenting yourself as able to accept a bid to another group would be fraudulent. Talk to the women from the sorority you were pledging, explain what happened and let them know that you are interested in a do-over. It sounds as though you have already started doing so - and for them, a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush (i.e. if they were doing informal rush, they probably were under total anyway). Good luck!
