Kappa Tau Sigma

Hello,

I recently started a new non-collegiate sorority with a group of my friends. I found GreekChat.com while looking for some information on starting my own GLO. If anyone has any suggestions or questions, please send them my way!

Thanks,

Bbrady1

Here's a question for you-- WHY?

I just visited your website. I don't know if you are a non-secret sorority, but I feel like you had a lot of information which my own GLO would consider to be secret, such as the meanings of the letters.

If you are non-secret, fine. But if you do intend to have a secret ritual, I would reconsider just how much you tell the public.

If you're "against hazing" and "didn't get a bid" according to their recruitment flyer.

She's not asking IF she can start one. It's already in existence.

But it's a reasonable question. There are already a number of established non-collegiate sororities, along with the established collegiate ones. As the OP seeks to recruit new members, she should expect them to ask "Why? -- Why did you see the need for a new sorority instead of an established one? What does Kappa Tau Sigma offer that other sororities (collegiate and non-collegiate) don't? Why should I choose Kappa Tau Sigma over the others?"

You might also consider that there is already a sorority that calls itself "Kappa" -- Kappa Kappa Gamma.

Right. And I would always offer that to someone who is THINKING about starting an organization, but not to someone who has already started one.

Also, the post I quoted didn't read as "I'm asking this to be helpful" -- it seemed like a precursor to a "founderitis" post.

Why not? The OP invited suggestions and questions. I would assume that any suggestions might include suggestions on how to build a strong foundation at the outset and recruit members. These "why?" questions go to the heart of those concerns, and it's never to late to make sure you have good answers to them.

Very true. I was trying to rehabilitate the question -- I think it highlights something that if the Kappa Tau Sigma founders haven't thought about (and for all we know, they've given it a great deal of thought), they would do well to.

We recently recognized this as well. Our website is now under some construction to make those pages "member-only." Thank you!
